Wouldn't doubt there's a new PED but times across the boards in every track event indicates 1 thing:
Technology.
Tracks with better return + Shoe technology that keeps improving. And the shoes keep getting even lighter, bouncier, and faster. Curious to see what times will be like in 2 or 3 years.
The thing is, the sprinters 100-200-400 aren’t running any faster despite what is purported to be better technology. This is clearly something that helps from 800 to 5,000. I would have said the double threshold training made a breakthrough (and I think it did) as the 800 was lagging behind too, but now with these amazing 800 times being popped, it must be something with lactate clearance or tolerance.
This. If it was technology, then there would be faster times in depth across all events. That is not the case. Sprinters as a group aren't any faster now.
Doping is something that died 10 years ago, tests are way better now.
+1 for the shoes. they have been underrated here.
My 5000m had been 16:10s for ages, then last year I finally got a pair of the Dragonfly and I broke 16 without even grimacing at the end as I usually did. (ok, that's still slow AF here)
Doping is something that died 10 years ago, tests are way better now.
Doping trumps everything else you listed. Testing can't keep up with it (with the solitary exception of Kenya). It is the true cutting edge of the sport.

I personally know people that dope and they get away with it. High level runners.
Remember, countries aren’t incentivized to rat on their best athletes, especially in an Olympic year.
There are also plenty of cycles that make it very hard to get caught if you are half smart about it and don’t get too greedy. I know how to do a cycle with well established and known PEDs without getting caught if I want to.
Care to share how you know they're doing drugs? :o
Btw, always enjoy reading your insights on training!

They tell me lmao.
I distinctly remember after one of my first collegiate cross country meets we had a kickback at one of my teammate’s house. He got rather drunk and decided he was going to bring out his stash and a few teammates were not only NOT shocked but seemed ecstatic. One of those teammates went from barely under 15:00 in the 5k to the upper 13:00s in a season and is making money running marathons now.
It’s been a “Santa isnt real” moment for me. I ran at a midmajor college. The teammate who showed me his PEDS passed all his tests through college, there weren’t a lot of them but he passed every time. He’s a good guy. He treats people well, is friendly, but also showed the team ChatGPT months before most of the academic world caught onto it. It’s why the “but Shelby is a good person” argument for why she wouldn’t have doped irks me.
People cheat in this sport. I don’t even blame them.

People only get mad if you don't share. Most people on Letsrun would love to have Nick Bare's muscle mass with a sub 2:40 marathon
We already saw the bump from the shoes. This is something different, and it’s something that is not happening equally for all, which usually indicates doping.
Not happening equally? The US trials just witnessed the fastest women's and men's American 1500 times in history, by a long shot, with almost every running a PR. Or look at the women's steeple at the trials. Huge PRs by some older runners. There are faster times across the board from HS on up. Why should we expect anything different in the DL?

Pathetic that you "don't even blame them" for cheating.

If you don’t understand you don’t understand and that’s fine.
These are athletes that are told and tell themselves that they must be the best their entire lives. You ask them who they are and they say “I am a runner”. And then it starts effecting their scholarship money and even their income if they can no longer compete at the level that they are expected to compete at. It affects their sense of self worth. And then they learn the people that are beating them are cheating, and that they are going to get away with cheating, and because those cheaters are beating them, they will miss out on the things that pay for their school or pay for their rent.
A dishonest system beckons dishonest athletes. Your heros in this sport and other sports are using PEDs. There aren’t doping eras, there are dopers getting caught eras. If you want to believe in Santa you are more than welcome, life was a bit more rose colored when I believed in him.

The shoes fit that. Not saying there's not a new ped too.
He’s a youtube influencer who’s about 6’0 195 and runs sub 2:40 thons. He makes a lucrative living off of this.
So the answer is probably yes
Wow! 6'0", 195 & running sub 2:40? That's my size (5'11", 195) when I played a couple of years of D-1 college football & ran the hurdles over 40 yrs ago. I sure as heck couldn't a marathon if my life depended on it. Lol.
I'll have to look up this dude & see what the deal is.
Allegedly the new PED is something targeting the mitochondria
Biggest question is testicular shrinkage for men -- WADA and USADA test for "keep the balls on" drugs. Is there a new sperm pump drug, or should drug testers be measuring testicle circumference?
It is more like epitestosterone gels that hide testo levels
After what looked like the most doped-up Diamond League event I’ve ever seen, I’m finally at the point where I think there must be a new PED that is being widely used. It’s clearly something that is helping with pain tolerance / lactate resistance. Anybody have any insight as to what it might be? Surely it has filtered to the college ranks by now and some of you must know what this is. Any thoughts?
The professional endurance sport is rigged and broken since decades. Cycling, running, swimming, x-country skiing, etc. is full of people using PEDs.
This is one reason the interest and social significance of professional sport goes down and will continue to go down. Team sports are less vulnerable to that, but doping is also there.

Testicular shrinkage..Quite fitting given the OP username
