Hoppel clearly has more in his tank THIS YEAR if he stays healthy, I wouldn't be shocked if he ran 1:41.9 to 1:42.1 AR and thar would give him a shot at GOLD. Anything can happen to the Kenyan favorite. IF BRYCE CAN BREAK THE AR I don't see more than one person beating him, if that remember.anytging can happen to the FAVORITE.
Wanyonyi and Arop are tough. I agree we might see something amazing in Paris. And before that Paris and Monaco might see 4 athletes scare 1:42.
Yea, he can maybe run a little faster. But going into the final 100M, the camera was close & he was clearly straining. He didn't have much more in the tank.

Oh, I agree he was all-out today. Still, 1:42-high is going to medal, but probably not win.
Did he officially join? Earlier in the year I thought he clarified in an interview that he was just running with Hobbs because they were in the same location, so Hoppel was more or less tagging along but still had his own coach. Maybe it changed or I misunderstood.
VNTC is more informal than most training groups. They've been posting about Hoppel on social media for like 4 months, which is official as it gets. Hoppel still has his own coach but frequently works out with VNTC runners when the workouts and training make sense. A good coach can coordinate with other coaches and adjust a plan depending on the training bloc. He runs with them because it makes training fun. It's not a coincidence he's running fast times if he's having fun.

Why is Oregon track so fast?
Its first synthetic track was Pro-Turf, a urethane and sand composite which led to a hard and fast surface; it produced many world records and gained a reputation as the world's fastest track.

It's amazing how people can look at the same thing and see totally opposite. I thought he was working but he was relaxed with no visible straining in his expression or form.
I don't see the runners of these US trials better than the runners that were at the Brit trials.
As long as Josh Kerr chooses to shove competitors in a desperate and improper attempt to pass on the inside during the home stretch, I'm sure he'll be in the mix against the Americans. 😑

He also led a race filled with pace changes and inefficiencies. Wanyonyi led his 1:41.7 but measured it perfectly. It’s a big IF until the Paris final if he gets a perfect fast race to PB. Diamond League 800s with 12 guys fighting to hit 24 at 200 can go many different ways. But if Hoppel can get in a race where he drafts off either of the big two going for a 1:41…watch out. I doubt he beats them but I bet he goes faster.

I rather not see another deep race like David Rudisha Olympic W R. 4th place ran sub 1:43 and I think almost the whole field ran 1:44:or faster except 1 of 9 competitors. I would love to see an American STORM to a 1:41.6, even 1:41.70 and pass Seb Coe 😂.lol
Who are the big 2 you speak of that Hoppel should draft off that are capable of 1:41? I'm sure Bryce tapered for the Trials but he training to peak next month and stands a good chance of running another personal best (no matter how big or small).
Those splits must be wrong. I've been told over and over again on this site by "experts" that the only way to run your fastest and best 800m is to have a rather big positive split. Like 2 seconds. Some since Hoppel ran his best race of his life, i highly question those splits. But if it is true, then that means Hoppel could have run 140 today with the correct scientific pacing. 🙄

Still waiting on you to identify the big 2 that's capable of 1:41 that Bryce should draft behind? I know one as he already did it at altitude (which is more conducive for any sprint up to 800m)...but who is this mysterious 2nd athlete you spoke of?
