Just trying to keep pace on the British selection criteria here. They take the top 2 from their Trials plus a subjective pick? Does that mean one of Kerr or Wightman cannot be in the 1,500 at the Olymipcs? That would be very significant if true.

I’m not sure how it works but I know both Kerr could make it. Kerr is guaranteed because he’s world champ I think. And so he doesn’t count towards the subjective pick. Something like that

Kerr has a spot in the 1500m team as a medal winner at the World’s (same as Keely). Then it’s the top 2 at the trials. So 1500m Is Kerr, Gourlay and Mills. It doesn’t look like Wightman will be in for the 1500m.
Kerr just needed to run an event to show ‘current fitness’. So he chose the 800m as a speed sharpener race and he said to also practice tactics is a faster race.
So it’s unclear who the third spot will got to for the 800m. Wightman or Giles.

Ok that makes sense. Still, no Wightman in the 1,500 is a shocking development if he is in fact healthy.

I think even if he had run at the Champs it was still quite open in terms of who was going to make the team.
He has the fastest 800m time this year so the selectors need to decide between him and Giles for that third spot. It is a shame he’s not going to run the 1500 though. And he may not even be going to Paris.
Have to think you'd go Wightman in 800. Way more upside, fastest time UK this year and proven championship performer. I always though Jake had way more to give in the 800 despite his prowess at 1500.

Yeah I hope they do. And I agree he’s speedy over the shorter distance - an 800m/1500m runner unlike Kerr and Jakob who are 1500m plus.
Giles has never shown himself to be a good championship performer. He’s inconsistent and I do think that trip was largely his fault.
Jesus, that was horrible. And as usual the LRC idiots have it completely wrong: Kerr very clearly did have some room, and Giles very clearly cut back in on him quite hard, and gave him absolutely nowhere to go.
I sure hope Josh is okay, but that could've just killed his Olympics.
Just watched the video. Giles had one of the most obvious cases of cutting across the track to prevent someone from passing that I’ve seen. Not sure what the debate is about

Giles is in the middle of lane one when Kerr makes contact. He only lands in the inside of lane one once Kerr had clipped his foot knocking him down.
Giles drifts to the outer 1/4 of the lane coming off the turn then back to the middle when he feels Kerr trying to pass. Kerr was hoping to get lucky, but he never had room to make that pass on the rail.

Straw-man here. Clearly Kerr had some room…but he made no adjustment to Giles’ drifting. Yes Giles was to blame somewhat for that but Kerr did not have sufficient room to race it as he did. That was basically acting like Giles wasn’t there or that pushing him not even out of the way would solve things. A miscalculation that I’m sure he’d admit wasn’t his finest moment.

Nah. Look at Giles' feet. He cut in right on top of him and gave him nowhere to go at all.
