He now has a fatter PR than Rooks and he’s nowhere near Rooks. On this track (which is fastest steeple track in world) Rooks would run 8:06

How many finishers do you need in a track race for it to be official?
Don't know but the guy who finished second in 8:17 was legit.
Nice job pacing by a supporter’s club member!
Such an awesome performance. Mentally, he basically had to take on the mental build-up for a do-or-die race twice to qualify for the Olympics this week. Once to take third in the actual trials, which no one had him in there pre-race favorites and then do it again by himself in a time trial. I can’t imagine emotionally having to get up twice to do that (or three times if you count semi final where he ran a PR) in such a quick turnaround. Well done!
The pacer was absolutely excellent! Rock solid pace, and Corrigan looked like he got shot out of a cannon when the pacer dropped off and let him free. was an awesome event to witness!
JAMES CORRIGAN! He's unstoppable
And he's getting married next week so send him best wishes! <3
How do you go from finishing 9th at NCAA to running 8:13? 8:13 is a legit world class time.
Maybe he was sick that week.
id guess a lot of high mileage weeks and peaking at the right time and having a good training partner and him not knowing his own limit
Ranks him 13th in the world this year. 0.57 away from 10th

What a performance. Raced onto the team, flew across the country, hot temps, solo the last 1k.
What a week for him.
Hot temps? This is a perfect example of how different temperature at sunset is vs under the overhead sun. It matters a lot
Well done Mr Corrigan! Make us all proud!

Or maybe its a simple as he wasn't ready then?

Had been running this evening in Philly and while not terribly hot (low 80s), it is incredibly humid and running was not fun. Very far from ideal conditions. Amazing performance.
Nobody could have predicted his qualification for Paris at NCAA.
At that point (a few weeks ago), he had a PB of 8:28.8 (done in SF at NCAA) and finished 9th in the final at NCAA in 8:29.6
Even worse, what about predicting this on March 22, 2024. At that point his PB was 8:52. On March 28, 2024, his PB was down to 8:50…
I don’t think that Jager was worrying too much about him.
Now, he runs 8:13 and is the 12th fastest American ever.

I wonder if Jager tries a marathon later
