What in the hell was happening with Rodenfels approach to the barriers? The first time I saw it, it looked like a misstep. Then she just kept doing it. Goucher didn’t even know what to say.
It's possible she had some discomfort/pain/injury in 1 of her legs and found that changing the approach angle helped alleviate this when actually making the jump or landing.

She's always jumped the barrier like that and two stepped the water barrier. Very impressive that she can run that fast given the technique. I do wonder if the other ladies in hurdling next to her have to change their approach with how she stutters into each barrier, has to be annoying.
Fun fact, the men’s steeple final and the women’s steeple final both went out in 3 minutes for the first 1,000 meters of the race. This explains everything as to why the women’s distance races have been more fun to watch compared to the men’s at these trials.

The men 1500m was almost as good at the women steeple.

If she can work with someone on her technique she could be a future contender. Over the course of the race it’s costing her a lot of time. She does have some experience running the event going back to her collegiate days at Centre but it hasn’t been her main focus. If she wants to get better she has to do something about that technique.
EUGENE, Ore. -- On paper, Thursday night's women's steeplechase final at the 2024 US Olympic Trials did not have the makings of a classic. The event had
Okay, my mistake. Markezich said after she landed awkwardly in the water pit she basically couldn't feel her legs from lactic acid so jumped the last barrier all wobbly and wiped out. Glad she's okay and she's going to Europe this summer for the first time with On. Can't wait to see what she can do with full-time training and altitude. I say she's under 9 minutes in a year. Yep, I'm a biased Domer but great race by her and by all the top women. The men's 10k and 1500 and women's steeple, heck, even watching Valby try to run the legs off the pros in the 5k and that great sprint finish have been wonderful Go USA.

What a RACE for all these women! Super competitive times across the board - love to see it. Great job to Markezich especially, getting in there with the “veterans” and giving 110%. She was practically redlining and holding on for dear life, running a pace that she’s never run in a race. She’s got a huge future ahead of her and super pumped to see what’s next!
Markezich was trying to move into second on the inside at the last water jump. Her back foot clipped the hurdle and she landed awkwardly. It looked like she injured her knee right there. When she tried to land on that leg over the last hurdle, her knee just gave out and she collapsed. Damn!! She limped across the lawn if you watch. She would have been battling for those last two spots with her own 10 second pr. Great race and she still got a 3 second PR
That's how it looked to me too. Poor kid. If she hadn't clipped that trail leg she likely would have been going to Paris.

Guess I was wrong. Looked like hurt herself but instead the bear just jumped on her back that last 150m.

She was trying to run faster than she had trained at so her steps were off. As a result, she took two diagonal strides into the barrier (especially the water jump where she was trying to generate power) to hit the barrier clean. Typically runners just drift out to accomplish the same thing. I think she broke from the pack when she did because she is not comfortable with the barriers and wanted a clean view.

Is she a mom or a farmer? Maybe that’s why Goucher was speechless.
I thought the wowmn's steeple was going to be one of the weaker events This will be the best race of the trials. These women ran fast when it counted and elevated the US to one of the strong steeple countries this year. And after watching the post race interviews with the finishers I was even more impressed. Great stuff!
Well, not HER, but what I heard is that a certain coach from there is who does it
The Idaho track thread got into the drama of it all this last spring when someone was taking offense to the way that a rival high school posts on Youtube and they got accused of being a specific person from within the program.
Rocky adjacent people post a lot on here. Sometimes it's runners, sometimes parents, sometimes other people from within the program. The hate for Rocky Mountain has to do with all of that. The level of hate is more than what is warranted, but also they are one of the more (in)famous teams on Letsrun at this point by their own making.
I doubt that the person you are referring to is posting about Nico Young. If he was, it would be a remarkably bad decision.

Did the LRC peeps ask Rodenfels what was up?
Seems with everyone in the race running so fast maybe her steps were off, but the guy saying that's what she always does seems to contradict that. She was able to hurdle without the weirdness in the brief period when she was in the pack, so she doesn't "need" to do the machinations.
