Fairest thing may be to just let Athing Mu run a solo time trial and see if she beats any of them. I’m sorry, this isn’t about your Olympic story. It’s about gold medals. Not taking Mu will cost the US a gold medal through no fault of her own.
Rerunning the race when the rule only allows for that if the fall occured in the first 100m isn't fair. Regardless, I have to make a point here. Mu has long gotten tangled up in these races due to her stride. It happened in some races in 2021, happened at USAs in 2022 or 2023, happened in Budapest and almost completely took her out, and this time it ended up taking her out. If Bobby was worth his salt he would've recognised the pattern and worked on some tactics in her race plan to minimise risk and also put her in some races to get sharp instead of opening at the trials (this part is moot if she was injured). Can't really call it a freak accident when she's tempted fate here for years.
Downside of the three past the post system. She could have been pre-selected as defending Olympic champion. But that is not how it works in America. Presumably that is the end of her season.
She didn't race, focused more on modeling, and pooped in the fridge in a trials final just driving drunk because she forgot how to navigate.
You want that in Paris?
Racing is a skill. Sometimes it's good to hone that skill by you know... actually racing.
An inflated ego, came crashing to the ground.
She can now spin this into a come back story for Worlds. She'll be fine.
I'm super happy for the women that made it. Great effort by them.

well that was the one and only time I watch your reaction show
As bad as this idea is in writing, listening to you on the reaction show explaining your thought process in a minimally intelligible manner leaves me only one question: are you drunk or do you have a neurodegenerative disease? Three athletes just won their positions on the Olympic team. Mu was not impeded. Watch the race, while sober.
1. Learn to race and be attentive to the space around you. If you can't then be a time trialing rail hugger.
2. This is why racing with some frequency helps. The more experience you have the faster you learn to race better.
3. No special rules for people who can't race well or get unlucky. It's tough luck and try again in 4 years. I don't want a stumbling and jittery headcase on the Olympic team if she couldn't finish top 3 in the US trials.

Correct. The sudden winning and rise to the top got to her head but others remain hungry and focused. Pretending it ain't so and disappearing for a year isn't going to change that. You gotta actually race to be good at racing.
Looking at the replay in slo-mo, it appears that Mu caused the fall herself and greatly impeded Rogers. But anyway, zero chance that they re-run it. I am personally glad that I don't have to deal with Mu's bad attitude in Paris.
Amen and clever name. :)
To wit, when someone never races and suddenly comes out top shelf but forgot how to make toast, cry me a river.
If anything video looks like Mu did all the impeding, so I think she's more deserving of a DQ than a Re-Run.
Correct she closed in on the tight pack on her left when there was no space for it.. got herself a heel clip. It was just clumsy racing and the consequence was massive this time.
Middle distance running is almost a contact sport. She fell. It's done. Trials system is still better than the vagaries of any other selection process.
Yeah, and this is why Sydney should have run both the 400 and 400H. Even if she decides not to run the 400 in Paris it's better to have a backup plan - just in case.
