It's tough to type out a comment, especially a long one, on this site from a phone. But all my discussion forums that I'm on, I post comments from my Galaxy (I'm 63 & do everything on my phone - don't even own a laptop.🤣).
Curious, these guys that post these really long comments (e.g. rekrunner) - are they posting from their computers?
I just got a popup of Deno blowing a black guy. Wait, that was actually a mirror in room 226 I was looking at and not my computer screen. What a rookie I am.
Back here trying to help. Honestly. It is not a time stamp kind of thing. It happens like 40% of the time you go to a new page. It says something along the lines of "A problem repeatedly occurred on...(LRC thread link)." It happens a lot.
When it doesn't happen, the threads reload themselves a few times per minute. This happens on every thread 100% of the time. Even if you wait for it to load, it reloads. It is just very annoying if you're actually trying to read through a thread. It is a very common thing on my phone; not a recent thing, either. I am not a Luddite.
This morning I noticed it was entirely impossible to view any threads. Everything tried to go to a full-screen ad and the site would crash. Zero ability to go to a thread.
I don't think wejo is suggesting the time stamp is the problem, but it helps them to look at the logs on their server to see what was going on when you had a problem.
The complication is that some content* the user receives comes from ad service server(s) that the LetsRun doesn't have visibility into and your browser is probably choking on content from one of those redirects.
* - by "some content" from ad servers in the LetsRun context we of course mean "a sh!t ton of active ad content" which is why nobody in their right mind visits this site without an ad blocker.
If it matters, iPhone 15 and no ad blockers and the site runs well for me.
Your anecdotes totally miss the point.
The problem is that it is obvious that the brilliant business tacticians who run this site with Daddy's money are convinced the way to subsidize their lifestyles of buying hair plugs and poorly enunciating words is to make the experience for all non-SC users complete dogsht.
Any normal person would think "Hey morons, that's stupid! You're better off improving the quality, not decreasing it, thereby giving people a reason to trust that you are selling a product worth buying!". But the BroJos aren't normal people, that ship sailed a long time ago when their Dad become GW Bush's errand boy in exchange for a lifetime of cushy handouts.
1) I just got a refresh on the homepage where we don't have any floating banners or video ads.
So this is weird.
A few questions.
1) Are any supporting club members getting this on the forums?
They see no ads there so curious if they don't see it.
Something weird is likely coming through the ad stack that we are trying to diagnose.
Yes you have,we try to deal with it but then once a month someone breaks down and makes a thread that complains about it. I don't mind the ads. Videos are the most taxing on bandwidth and resources.

My anecdotes are exactly on point in a direct response to Wejo’s question “Are SC members experiencing any issues?”
I believe he is trying to rule out items that may be causing issues for others. I strongly believe they want the non-SC user experience to be optimal as that is the bulk of the traffic that leads to greater ad revenue. I don’t know the financials of Letsrun, but I’m guessing ad revenue far exceeds SC member dues.
I’m a member because I enjoy the podcast, wanted a tshirt and I use the site. It’s my only site for track and field news, and this is a huge weekend coming up. I’ve only met Weldon, but he was super cordial and very down to earth.

LOOOOOOOOOOL. There aren't enough L's and O's in the world for that abject and hilarious nonsense.
Yes, nothing says "optimal" like a site designed twenty years ago with about thirty autoplaying ads per page.

What a miserable way to go through life.
Seriously. Sad.
But I’ll address the concept that we are intentionally trying to piss users off. That would be idiotic. The problem is this issue only affects a minority of our visitors and doesn’t occur all the time so it is hard to diagnose beyond it is somehow related to ads and page load.
If it happened to everyone it would be easy to diagnose. A few months ago we put our web developer and ad guys on this and hired an outside consultant to look at this and made a few tweaks.
But this last week or so the issue seems to be more common. The other isssue is ads come through tens if not hundreds of providers. Finding the bad culprit is not easy.
And then there is the issue of Apple changing things with how iPhones interact with content.
I definitely have seen this issue on other sites but the other issue is we have loyal visitors who are on here every day so you really notice it when the same site keeps refreshing .
So thanks to everyone who has emailed us. We hope to figure this out

I agree totally. Dubyaing your way through life is miserable and sad. Sending your wives out to work while you lounge around in lifelong unemployment is embarrassing.

It's amazing you think the answer isn't more complex than "Hey, maybe I shouldn't have about 40 ads on every screen, including multiple auto-play videos", especially if, as you say, you care so much about the users and their experience.

No site that has this many ads isn't trying to piss their users off. Arguing otherwise makes no sense.

In fairness, my comment implying you were intentionally trying to piss off your users was hyperbolic.
To your point that the problem isn't the autoplay video because you've been doing that for years, I'd remind you that people have complained about excessive advertising for even longer, and this is the only forum I've participated in where the use of ad blocking plugins to make the site usable is a frequent and recurring topic and has been for many years.
You guys like to make the point that you're a social media rarity in that the site's owners are readily accessible. The problem is that you don't seem to take seriously the site issues that people are and have been telling you for years.
There's too many ads and too much blatant troll baiting. You can care or not, but there it is.
I agree totally. Dubyaing your way through life is miserable and sad. Sending your wives out to work while you lounge around in lifelong unemployment is embarrassing.
The brojo level of intellect and effort is beyond pathetic.
They need to re-work the site and optimize it for mobile. If not, LRC isn't going to be around much longer or will limp along with a core clientele of senior citizens still using PCs to view it.
Works great on mobile - one of the fastest loading sites tbh*
