In the NCAA finals, all of his drive was basically in the last 120-130m, just shot out of a cannon after the collision, which means that he had more in the tank and can potentially get down into the 1:43 range. I hope he qualifies for the team, which is tough but possible.
I was looking up his basketball exploits, and the best I could find was that he led his team as a senior to a 28-4 record, falling out in a blowout in the state semifinals, and that he passed 1,000 points for his career with several games to go. Obviously, his height made it tough to get recruited in basketball but his scoring, speed, and defense make that decision not to recruit him at smaller programs pretty questionable. I often wonder how many basketball players aren't recruited because of paradigms coaches have in their heads without really examining whether they really apply to a given player. In any case, he was getting some recruiting letters for track because track coaches do know some numbers with potential when they see him, e.g. 23/49/1:58 for a guy who sometimes ran the 1600m.
