She didn’t look particularly tired after winning the 10k a few days later (last night). It was noticeable that all the runners after her were lying on the floor after finishing and she was prancing around having barely broken a sweat. It just didn’t look like hard work to her.
However, she is a very strong cross country runner and has won many races so we will have to believe she’s had a good winter and is seeing the benefits now.
It’s the lack of fatigue that perplexes me. Unless she’s just very fit.
Why would someone look particularly tired running a 10k nearly a minute slower than what she’s capable of? Based on the way she closed her 5k, Battocletti is currently in sub 14:30 and sub 30 shape. She’s very fit and just entering her prime.
It was merely an observation in a ‘that’s impressive’ way. She looked like she could have gone a lot faster. She didn’t look tired. She had a lot of speed in her legs at the end.
If we're being completely honest, the country of Italy is HORRIBLE at track and field. On my life, I've never once heard "this Italian runner is up next". They really aren't competitive with the other top EU squads.
However, in Olympic years, they go crazy.
National records in 2021 (Tokyo)
Men's: Marcel Jacobs (100m), Paolo Dal Molin (110 hurdles), Yemaneberhan Crippa (3000m), 4x100, 4x400
Women's: Zaynab Dosso (100m), Nadia Battocletti (5000m) Many records set between 2021-2024 (at worlds)
Anyone with any sense can see what's going on here. This country can't run and has magically turned up in 2 consecutive Olympic years... They have no development and apart from the 2 most recent EU championships they've had no drip...
Seriously pathetic operations from this country. #BanItaly
I would ban you for stupidity. They have been investing for years into the sport, for a change, and they have been winning medals in all the disciplines, including jumps and throws. Some of them, if you had paid any sort of attention, have grown from the age groups. Some of those records you refer to are decades old. Plus these champs are at home. So about time. And it really shows how narrow minded you are...
In 2021 Italy was the country with most medals at European Under-23 Championships. Most of the athletes medalling today at senior European Championships 3 years later were there...basically the only medals of current Euros who were not in that Under-23 championship are Jacobs, Tamberi, Palmisano (gol medal winners at Oly in the same year, and apart from Jacobs the other two were medal contenders at Worlds even before that, so it's not like they came out of nowhere), Ali (who improved a lot but is a 10"03 100 m runner, so it's not like he is setting world records, and it's not like his progression is more suspicious than any USA/Jamaican/UK sprinter) and Pietro Riva (who ran a 61 min HM, with a sub 60 min PR, and who has been running 60-61 min HMs for the past four years).

“The lack of fatigue” I’ve seen bandied around here endlessly on this message board as a ‘red-flag’, but that’s evidently without any consideration or knowledge of the characteristic response of an athlete’s particular aerobic metabolism. For example, look at the finish of any high school cross-country race, and you will see the whole gamut of response; some kids are able to walk away from the race quickly thereafter with a smile on their race, while others are collapsed on the ground.
Comparing school races with international finals, where highly trained professional athletes are striving to do their best, is somewhat ridiculous.
It may be hilarious to you, but there are a lot of other athletes with what you can choose to call funny progressions, but unless you actually have some proof to provide to the AIU, or want to apply for a job in doping control, then you are just a rumor monger, no?
Just like all those rumours about Lance back in the day.
Yeah, no…However, some of those runners were born in different countries, Crippa was born in Ethiopia for instance, and became Italian citizens after a few years of arriving in Italy. Battocletti on the other hand has been very strong in the age groups and XC for the past few years, so her performance doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise. Not everything must have something to do with doping
Battocletti has improved a minute over the 5k in the last 4 years from aged 20-24, and 2 minutes in the last 6 years. That is a massive improvement at that age. By comparison, it would be like Valby improving from her present 14:52 to 13:52.
Perhaps Battocletti now has the same nutritionist that Jacobs had for his 2022 run.

Neither race was a time trial but a relatively slow early-paced race with a fast finish in which all those behind her were flat out. The Norwegian in the 5k behind her was absolutely exhausted (and she doesn't get an automatic pass, either).

Absolutely. Improving from 15:46 to 14:46 is the same as improving from 14:52 to 13:52. Also the same as improving from 14:00 to 13:00 for Tsegay.
You are definitely one of the most stupid posters on this board. Which means a lot...
Since we are referring to different runners in each example the stupidity is all yours. Also, giving an E African woman as an example is automatically referring to a doped athlete now.

I'm sure they have been "investing" in sport for years. That's what doping is.

That’s because the Norwegian (Grovdal) did all the work leading the race. In the 10k, the second place finisher (van Es) was smiling as she crossed the finish line.

The second place-getter was nowhere near. If she had had anything left in her tank she would have tried to win.
I also remember Aryana doing all the work from the front in the 10k at Rio. Miles in front. Effortless.

And she was the fastest ever at 21. This is a lot of hemming and hawing for a runner who’ll be stretched to finish top 10 in Paris.
No one beats a bunch of juiced E Africans in Paris. Although Battocletti's biggest jump occurred in 2021 her latest pr's didnt occur in time trials but relatively slow races. She is capable of much faster. It is the sheer power of her finishes and lack of fatigue after that are the biggest giveaways.

She won gold in Tallin in 2021 at Euro Under-23, so she was the best in Europe at that age. Do you know who was second and third in that race? Lukan (4th yesterday) and Van Es (2rd yesterday). So, if she is doped then probably those two are as well, given that they improved as much as her...

Jingy will beat them easily in the 5k... The kenyans and ethiopians suddenly appears to be on a completely differnt level when it comes to the championships. They kick a 53 lap of 12.40 pace in DL races, but struggle to medal in 13.10 pace in worlds last year.. its seems to be quite an obivius answer to that..
Do anyone know how Battocletti trains? Norwegian threshold traning?
