Yomif in 26:31 over Aregawi, Barega jogged it in once he saw he had top 3 and still was probably around 26:35, Mehary outstanding debut (U20 record) in under 26:40. Yomif should be allowed to be double, but I wouldn’t have anyone else double.

And with that a WU20R for Mehary, takes it from Sammy Wanjiru

Barega should double. He's the most consistent Ethiopian championship performer.

I think Yomif might be better off in the 10 even if he doesn’t double. He has a medal in the 10 already and despite his strength on the circuit he’s never really shown the ability to close with the best in a championship 5000.

So now Tsegays group has a huge star on the mens side - 26:37.9 and might not make it to Paris! Though I’d give him serious consideration for the 3rd 5,000 spot.

Certainly an argument for this… It’s pretty wild that Worku runs 26:46 and only gets a distant 6th and is probably already thinking about moving up to the marathon.
3 guys under the standard it looked like. Tefera 2nd, winner Feyisa ran a strong race. Ermias Girma Shire faded the last 200. Rough 2024 for the Lewandowski group that also has Laros.

Merhawi Mebrahtu got the standard for Eritrea, thus looks like no Japanese men in the 10000 this year. Aron Kifle ran 27:09, a huge return to form but I didn't even realize he was there
