The coverage was so painful. Keep Dan O'Brien and fire everyone else. He's the only one to do his home work and actually know who the athletes are. Dwight Stones is total embarrassment.
This just isn’t true. The only one that needs to go is Dwight. Other posters have mentioned these things but constantly mispronouncing names, mixing up teams, calling the winner of races with 100m to go, is annoying as f*ck. Overton has gotten criticism about talking a lot but it seems like she’s being directed to do that by the producers. She’s definitely done her homework and she keeps giving us interesting information. RG3 and O’Brien are decent as well.

This is 100% correct. One key thing that good announcers do with their voices is to add excitement to the tv broadcast -- so that you can feel some of the shared excitement that you would experience in the stadium. The British announcers are fantastic at this.
True. The announcer who did the men's 800m final at the 2012 Olympics on this video is outstanding--top-notch race with top-notch announcing:

A thread like this gets stares after EVERY televised meet. If the coverage consistently stinks, maybe it's not the coverage, but the event being covered.
To state the obvious, the coverage by ESPN is MUCH better than what we are fed by NBC. At least the ESPN announcers are prepared and are very knowledgeable about the sport. The NBC talking heads are neither ...
Were they really? I think it was the 4*1 and they had no clue what team won the race.
