Announcers expect too much for a meet/race like that. Bol runs Sunday in Stockholm and then Euros. Don't expect that WL to hold up, although it doesn't matter unless Bol cuts loose with something low 51.
Kinda crazy how Sydney is competing in this meet, talked about how athletes need to market themselves better, and her 1.1M IG followers would be none the wiser she is competing. No IG Story, no post, nothing.
Agree. It’s also her first 400m hurdles of the season.. her premiere event. It’s hard to be a fan of hers frankly, as she rarely competes, seems to hate competing and doesn’t even let the fans know when she does. 🧐. Not good for the sport..
Didn't bother the whole stand of fans who surrounded her after her race. It seems to me they are doing fine with being her fan.

Nice to see SML congratulate her competition.
She went 51.6 for "a meet/race like that" in 2022. Both Continental Tour Silver meets.
You think? It looked easy pace-wise, but I thought she looked very choppy around the hurdles. Not a hurdler though, so perhaps wrong..
That's my point, stride pattern wasn't flawless but her raw speed is so far beyond everyone else she still put up a good time on a slow track. Didn't look like she was straining on the homestretch, either

What's your point? That was 2 years ago and she hadn't run hurdles since.
She dribbled into a 15 stride on the 2nd hurdle and there's no way to recover a clean 14 stride race from that. Just a technical error she has to work on.

We'll see what Bol's got Sunday after getting a full season of races running 14 last year. It's her opener too.
Sydney wasn't even trying to run fast. 15 steps for most of the race, then 16 steps. She never had any intention of running fast today.
Why not even try?
It was to get the Olympic standard time.
That's not true. She didn't need to get the Olympic standard today. She has to run faster than the 54.85 Olympic standard at the Trials anyway in order to make the team.
She just didn't feel like running as fast as she could, that's all.

But now she doesn't have to worry about the Olympic standard does she? Now all she needs to do is place in the top 3 in anytime at Trials.
The fact that she didn't run as fast as she could, should tell you something.
She normally does 14 steps, but didn't today. Very strange.
There is nothing strange about it. She hasn't run the event in 2 years. Do you expect her to be where she left off? Come on man...
You clearly don't understand the 400H at all.
When hurdlers practice for the 400H, they practice a certain stride pattern. They don't practice 14 steps and then do 15 steps in a race, because that makes no sense. It also makes no sense to practice 15 steps up to the Olympic Trials and then do 14 steps at the Olympic Trials.
And it takes a while to get the 14 steps correct, which means you can't wait until the last minute to be practicing and racing 14 steps. And it's very unlikely that she switched permanently to 15 steps, because doing 15 steps would hurt her chances of beating Bol.

There's no way that Sydney could run slower than the 54.85 Olympic standard at the Trials and still make the team. C'mon man, think a little.
