Jakob started all this with his sore loser comments and excuses. 'just the next guy', 'I had a virus etc'. He had no grace when losing and showed the world champion no respect. He should have learned from Tim C at the Olympics. All Kerr said was Jakob was too arrogant to see his weaknesses and surrounded by yes men. Jakob seems to lack self awareness and social skills. Trying to say Kerr is a coward after his own comments about beating Kerr blind folded when Kerr broke the world record is a bit much.
Jakob seemed to be calling Kerr out for not racing enough during the press conference and kept making points about racing well year round. Kerr has a completely different approach to training and racing. He is getting 100 percent out of himself when it counts and that is to be respected. He is not as talented as Jakob but got it done when it counted. Jakob can't seem to accept that. You don't win a world championship gold medal by dominating the whole season. You do it by being the best on one day every two years.
Josh fkn bossed him today. Smartest runner out there. Exploited Jakob's racing weakness in Budapest, exercised patience and milked his win instead of losing in some unimportant race, then exploited Jakob's mental weakness, then used the time since to improve his fitness and break a WR, and took it to Jakob with no fkn fear today.
Kerr’s comments on that podcast were out of line and far more personal than any Jakob has ever made. Whatever you think of Jakob or the trash he has talked, I’ve never heard him attack the character of any of his competitors in the way Josh attacked him and his family.
Being "surrounded by yes men". Is that really all that personal. That comment is beyond tame. Jakob is being a bit dramatic here. Don't mind the drama, but he seems quite sensitive.
Yea, saying "surrounded by yes -men" doesn't seem all that personal or disrespectful to me. Perhaps there were other comments I haven't heard of - I didn't listen to the podcast.
I think Kerr’s most insulting comment was as follows (and it came before any real insults from Jakob): “He is high on himself this one…” -The “high” thing is totally OK in my eyes. But the “this one” sort of says that Josh try to psychoanalyse and mark Jakob as a poor care needing unhinged self obsessed one… And this phrasing seemed intentional (from a raging guy who felt very much disrespected of his view of himself as “always been very good”, and now the best md runner in the world… -Jakob as being sick, and the consistently better runner unbearable insults to Kerr’s ego).
“If I dislike someone and I have something I want to say to them, I approach them and I confront them and tell them what I mean, what I want“
I’m just wondering if Jakob has confronted Kerr with this or if he reserves his comments for interviews. You know, like he’s criticizing Kerr for doing.
I gave you an upvote… But since we know Josh and Jakob spoke privately together after the race -here is a suggestion of what I really would like they said to each other: Jakob: Josh, I’m sorry I called you a coward -you clearly isn’t, neither in your racing or your wordings..! But what I meant was that I didn’t like that you called me “high on himself this one” nor the yes men thing that could be insulting my family… Josh: No offends, I get it. -I get your apologies, and I apologise back. But I felt offended of your “next guy” remarks -that you belittled my achievement… Jakob: Im sorry; I didn’t mean that… Both: Let’s forget all this, and agree that we both are in great progress. And let’s continue the trash talk, but keep it civil..!

He is using more everyday language to identify what is likely fact, that Jakob is a narcissist. Everything Jakob says broadcasts his egotism.

Sport should reflect the best in culture, not its worst

You found the being surrounded by yes-men comment an out of line attack against Jakob's family? Have you watched any other sports? Conor McGregor compared the wife of his opponent, Khabib, to a towel for wearing an Islamic garb. Jorge Masvidal said he wanted to end his opponent, Ben Askren's, bloodline.
Kerr's comments were extremely tame by comparison. Runners are so soft.
Yeah, let's bring those stupid stare-downs from boxing, mixed-martial arts, and similar sports to running. And then let's have those attitudes spill over into all aspects of life even more. We'll all be killing each other over nothing, oh, I mean, for gettin' dissed.
Lol I will never forget the Jose Aldo press thing where Conor said something like " I will ride into your town on horseback and kill every man not fit for work"

Thats a pretty convoluted reading (not saying its impossible) but it requires a lot of assumptions.
“He is high on himself this one…”
The more parsimonious reading is that "this one" is referring to Jakob as one of many runners, emphasizing that most runners are not that high on themselves and that this one is.
To me, this is a nothing statement. Jakob is high on himself, and apparently is a very sensitive person. That's ok, its kind of fun that he gets all riled up by much of nothing. Can't imagine how he'd handle real trash talk.

I get that you think its a comment on his family, but I still fail to really see where the insult is. If the comment means "He's coached and surrounded by his family, so of course they're going to be agreeing with him, and praising him, and encouraging him" how is that an insult. Of course his family will be a bunch of yes men, most people's family would be. Thats ok. He seems quite sensitive if he thinks this is some sort of major insult.
Jakob's an awful hypocrite. Well able to throw shade in interviews with newspapers himself. Yet labels Kerr a coward for calling a spade a spade where Jakob's entourage is concerned in a podcast. Entertaining for the sport, UFC-esque, but double standards. Expects others to take his sh1tet@lk but not to give any back. Big ego. Little snowflake underneath it all.

Jakob would never because he "knows" he's a superior athlete and this would require him to "lower" himself a bit and others may think they are on the same level. The guy is an egomaniac but now he's met his match, and the problem is Josh has a superior head game.
