(although Ramsden ran 4:02 last weekend at LA Grand Prix, but I guess it doesn't count?)
Why would she do that in the first of four rounds when they were well clear of the field? Longshot attempt to improve her world ranking to qualify for the Olympics? But her pacing was all over the place, didn't seem like she was time trialing for a fast time.

I have it on good authority that prior to the start of the 10k last night, meet officials gathered the field and informed them that if the race reached the 6k mark and inclement weather arrived, they would ring the bell signaling that the race would end in 1 lap. Top 12 finishers at the end of that lap advance to Eugene.
1. Can anyone at the meet or better, in the race, confirm that this announcement was made?
2. If true, has there ever been a more idiotic plan suggested by meet officials? If the weather indeed makes the completion of the race unsafe and impossible, wouldn't you then have to rely on some empirical data to determine who advances. Perhaps top 12 seed times, or re-run the race either on Saturday or Sunday, before or after the scheduled events have begun or concluded?
That's reminiscent of the legendary Joe Rosa '2800-meter state record' at the NJMOC in 2010, when the brain-dead officials let them run 7 laps while there was thunder and lightning, and then yanked them off the track with one to go.
(Except that they just wiped out the results there.)

I was at the meet last night and heard no Heads up: we might squeeze this piece down to 6k and change announcement over the loudspeaker. If I get the chance, I may ask a coach if such a pre-race discussion btwn officials & athletes took place.
Earlier tonight, as the W 200 heats were wrapping up, the crowd was informed that the 10k would start "not before 9pm." As a write this post, the start time has already shifted to 10pm.
Amanda Moll nearly did not advance in the pole vault. She passed the first two heights, then missed twice at 4.10 before clearing. Another miss at 4.20 before clearing it and 4.30 to qualify.
Jaida Ross set a new collegiate record in the shot, becoming the first collegiate to break 20.00m. It is the 5th best throw in the world so far this year and only 2 cm behind Chase Ealy Jackson's US lead of 20.03. She moves to #7 US all-time.

Competed in last nights 10k, no mention of said announcement, barely let the one official go through his spiel about no pushing and shoving the first 400m, etc. The rest of the officials were trying to get the race started ASAP. Fortunate the race was not interrupted but there was no announcement to the racers, about this post 6k bell lap, to the best of my knowledge.

Update: It seems like Coaches were informed but there was no pre-race mass announcement (before race, in warmup area)

Interesting. So some DI collegiates actually visit this site?
