I’m in a Strava group with a bunch of young runners who run in the sub-5, sub-17 range and I’m more than twice there age.
What I observe is the following:
1. They are rarely injured like the older runners and can bounce quick after hard efforts. When you cross 35 years old, it is harder to recover.
2. They are in practice and racing eachother… in practice. I’m up at 6am and tired and doing it by myself because I have no one to run with, not even a track club.
3. As an adult who runs, you either suck at your job and don’t work hard enough but run a ton, or vice versa.
4. Your life as 17 year old is not nearly as complex, stressful, or demanding as a married man with kids. How do I know? I’m the parent of a 17 year old and I was 17 once as well. Life at 17 is a walk in the park.
5. These kids have a coach. You probably don’t.
