That being said, while I’m cheering for Femke to win, this performance was astonishing. I 100% would not bet on Sydney losing the 400m hurdles (possibly in another WR).
This kind of performance really does make a mockery of the sport though.
The religious zealot, who has convinced herself the Almighty has predetermined this path for her, and the coach who's been accused of doping, under oath, in a Canadian Inquiry back in the day. What a combination, eh!
As another poster has said, she has Marion Jones vibes: an amazing natural talent, that doesn't need to do anything other than train & compete to be the best!
Yet here she is with one of the words most notorious coaches, restricting her competition schedule to mainly low-key, domestic meets, and then when she does come out, she's in devastating form.
She is not a "once in a life time, generational talent that can do any event." There is no such thing. She's a super talented woman who has chosen a coach who uses dubious methods to prepare his athletes. Like any surreal performers in the world of T&F, there is other things at play other than talent.
It's sad that only a few can see this and we continue this BS.
Right, because Femke isn't right now juicing the hell out of herself in order to be 5 meters behind Syd. It's only a matter of time till Femke gets busted.
Felix was on PEDs as well right? Gots to say she should have tried better ones.
Why does she need to change coach? She ran worse at this meet last year and got a silver medal.
Because she is inconsistent and peaks at the wrong time. She ran 21.60 at Trials and then could barely eke out a 21.8 at the global championship. This has happened twice. Once is a mistake and crap can happen. Twice is a pattern. She seems to be making the same mistake Felix made with staying with Kersee where she pretty much stagnated.
she was on the sauce and off the sauce --(see her many whereabouts violations)
She hasn't posted a time in either the 400 or 400m in 2024. I am not saying she isn't the best in the world, but she has to post a WL time to be considered best in the world in those two events.
Some people here are saying that Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone running the 200 in 22.07 with a .548 reaction time means that she could have run 21.7 or 21.8 if she had a good reaction time. That's not true. There were several sta...
Syd can run a faster 200m, but the training to do so would be at the expense of the 400/400h. She is not cycling; she is still in a somewhat 400/400h stride pattern which is difficult to get out with training to sprint. Btw, Syd won this race partially because she put a lot of pressure on the other athletes early. They knew she was going to be strong at the end, but when she was leading early it was a surprise.
Nothing you wrote is accurate. She can run faster and the training and 400 impact is irrelevant. She had a dismal reaction time (opposite of putting pressure on early). She won the race because she was faster. No such thing as putting pressure on early as a reason for winning. She pushed the pace she should have, period. A good reaction time could have bagged her a 21.7 flat. She ran into a slight wind, a tailwind of 1.0 or if lucky 2.0 could have got her 21.5 combined with a hood start. She’s two months from a peak and didn’t get pushed to the line. So yea, she can run faster not at the expense of 400h training but because duh….
Syd got off the line at pretty much the same reaction as the other ladies - I didn’t state the pressure was at the start it was before the straight - yes athletes are definitely put under pressured which can change your race progression when youare 2 strides behind another athlete mid-race - yes Sydney stride mechanics are not perfect for the 200 - what part of what I’m stating are you not understanding?

Regardless of how one feels about the legitimacy of her current form, Syd sure as hell has the speed needed to make a run at another WR in the 400H. Based on her lack of racing I genuinely thought we saw the last of "her best." 22.07 is scary form.
Hoping this version of Syd brings the very best out of Femke. It may still result in a 5m lose, but we may very well see Bol run sub 51 having to chase whatever Syd will be ready to run.
