That's odd. Engelhardt just entered Brooks PR in the mile but she also says she is likely to run the 800? Then why not just enter the 800 in the first place?
In any case, I hope Engelhardt does end up running the 800 instead of the mile at Brooks PR. Engelhardt vs Ince in the 800 is a good race. Engelhardt in the mile is a blowout, especially with Jane Hedengren running the 2 mile.
Sadie doesn’t run a race she might lose. So no 3200m / 2mile for her

She also doesn’t run the 200 and 100! What’s your point? You run the events where you will find the most success!

She ran the two mile at Brooks PR last year and dropped out once she knew she wasn’t going to win. She definitely wont do that again.
Sadie wins the CIF Southern Section Div 2 1600 comfortably in 4:46.86. The top twelve performers from all four divisions qualify for the CIF Masters meet next week. From those 12 the top five finishers qualify for the CIF State meet. However, any finishers beyond the top five who meet the "at-large" standard, which this year is 4:51.10 also qualifies for the State Meet.
It appears Noonan’s “postseason mode” has been engaged.
Someone smarter than me explain what closing a 4:04 in 55 means he could run in an evenly paced time trial type race. 4:02? 4:01?
Maybe 4:01. Maybe 4:06. Yes, maybe if he went out at 2:00.5 he wouldn't run as well. Off the top of my head, all his great performances have included a strong negative split. Maybe he just runs better that way compared to even splits. I say that because I was like that as well. Not every runner is going max out using perfectly even splits. Besides that, being able to finish like that in a championship race is more valuable than being able to time trial a faster time.

I agree with most of this, to an extent. But splitting 2:06.x/1:57.x just seems like there’s gotta be a little more in there.
Not saying go out in 2 flat but maybe split the difference and come through at 2:02, hard to imagine he couldn’t run 61/59 coming home.
Full agreement that his ability to close is more important than running even splits though; in my opinion the latter is a far more learnable skill than the former.
A couple days ago it was announced she'll be running the (women's, not girls) mile at the HOKA Festival of Miles in St. Louis on May 30. She's already said she's running the 1500 at the Music City Track Carnival on June 1, so I guess she's making a single trip east out of it. I imagine she'll be attempting a 4:25 mile, which functions as another auto-standard (along with a 4:06 1500) for the 1500 at the Trials. This seems a slightly bigger stretch for her than running the 4:06, and if she doesn't get it, I do worry she'll be all the more tired for the 1500 attempt 2 days later. But I do believe she knows what she's doing.
