It's completely idiotic not to hold an event in or near a big city. Some fraction of spectators, like me, will travel for events only if it's an excuse to visit a cool city. No one wants to go to dumb**** Eugene. Only American runners have some idea of it as a "running Mecca." I don't think people from other countries even know or care who Pre was. I'm from the U.S. and get so tired of hearing about Pre, Bill Bowerman, Without Limits, blah blah.
