He raced in the Large school race and beat their 7 by a couple of seconds. Harriman got out bad at NXR, hence why they were so far behind American Fork. Manwaring had never actually beat Herriman's 7th man head to head, and their varsity is already set before NXN.

RunningLane and track season seems to be where Manwaring has shown signs of serious improvement, and next year he can be anywhere between #1 and #4 on the team. No other nonsenior has broken 10 in the 3200 yet, although a couple of guys were close. So to repeat as NXN champs, the question will be, can they find a really good #5, and will they have a #6&7 to back the scorers up.
IF you guys wanna go the never ran XC route....it's gotta be Coley Candaele from Carpenteria High in the late 80s. 4:06 1600m and I think he ran a 1:51 800m and went on to run at Oregon. I think he was the D4 record holder at that time, but that's for someone else to research. In the fall he was a stud QB with countless All CIF teams, CIF player of the year, led his team to a few CIF titles with undefeated seasons. He was the kind of runner you would have liked to have seen run in super spikes. He's possibly a better coach having won a couple of Nike Track Nationals with his high school team that was very close to Doug Soles's Great Oak school site and even Soles will admit....this guy in very good. He even got to experience coaching Michael Norman. Talk about a charmed life.
FWIW, on their current team, Luke Hnatt has run 9:18 but didn't make their varsity this fall. He's only a sophomore, though, so he'll be on the team in the future. Their fastest senior not on varsity only ran 4:41.
9:14 at Arcadia. 1 second behind 3-year varsity senior Falkowski.
Daniel Vaca of Bellarmine in San Jose, California ran 4:12/9:14 in 2021 and was not a top 7 XC runner for them. He was mostly 8th man or farther back and all the guys ahead of him were in the same class. That class was loaded -- 3 guys ran sub-9:00 -- but everyone was talking about Newbury Park so they didn't get much attention. Covid didn't help either.
