It's so hard to predict future success. On paper all things point to him being successful- great talent, lithe body, good mechanics, great future college program/coach. But so many things can happen.
Danny Simmons? At NB Indoor nats? there's no goddamn way that's true. Looking it up now.
He ran 8:34 3200 last year. Is that big a surprise?
It actually is a huge surprise. Lex and Leo were definitely better as high school juniors, and Conner Burns/Tyrone Gorze were arguably right around Danny's level as 11th graders (if not a tad under), but none of them were close to being this good in the 5k this time in their senior years.

Tyrone Gorze was nowhere close to 8:34 level as a junior (8:11/14:00 is not close). Burns didn't run an indoor 5k (3:59 and 8:43 that season though) but ran 13:37 outdoors. Lex and Leo were a similar level as juniors, Lex got hurt and still ran 14:00 indoors then 13:34 outdoors, while Leo didn't run a single 5k race his senior year. 13:38 in March for a young guy who was likely in 13:45 shape last outdoor should not be a surprise. Incredibly impressive, but also very much predictable.
Incredible, last 1k I had him at 2:38, last 800m 2:05. I know it’s too late into the season but would love to see what he can run a 3000m at this point. He went through the first 3k in 8:17, have to think he’d be close to Nico’s national record given his fitness. This kid is the real deal.
