It's not Lyles' responsibility to fill the relay team. He said he would run if they needed him and was asked. Was he supposed to go find someone else to run instead because he didn't run the heats?
Fred looked like he could barely run a curve at USAs last summer in the 200. And then he pooped the bed in the open 100. There was no reason to gamble and put him on a second relay with Justin Robinson there.
In 2022 he got hurt, and in 2021 he was a part of a handoff debacle in the 4x1. So he’s got no real argument, and probably is salty Lyles embarrassed him in the 60.
EDIT: IG is telling at the moment. Lyles has 40% of the followers but 5-10x the likes per post because he’s actually doing notable things as opposed to bombing in 60s and training through indoors

I freaking love that Lyles is out there running the 4x400. On this site, we often talk about how the biggest stars need to race on the biggest stage. Lyles showed up and ran two events that are not his comfort zone or primary event. It was almost like a high school dual meet in which you were canvassing athletes trying to get a leg for the 4x400. I loved that he was willing to do that. I mean, he knew his start was a weakness and he raced 60s until it became an asset. Running the 4x4 and chasing a medal is totally on brand and I am super impressed.
Impressed with taking an opportunity from a 400 specialist and being a non factor? I'll admit I was curious how he would do but I wish they would've tried this experiment in prelims. He wasn't the sole reason we lost BUT he didn't meet the expectations today.
Weird the US indoor champ wasn't on either prelims or finals. I know he didn't have a good open race but still figured he could rip a relay leg.
What expectation did you have, that he was going to run a sub 42, a sub 43, a sub 44?
yes wondering why and how Lyles got a spot on this relay team in the final.
Lyles himself needs to "Come on out'" and run some open 400s and prove himself if he wants a spot on the 4x400 team at the Olympics.
When was the last time he ran an open 400? Has he ever broken 46? Aside from him offering, why did selectors suddenly decide to put him on the relay team in the final?
And Kerley needs to also run some open 400 if he wants to be selected (although he has much more past experience and results in the 400 than Lyles).
Although USA has dominated 4x400 relays, wondering if selector shenanigans like putting Mu and SML on the team in the final, and now Lyles, has USA open 400 runners second guessing their decisions to focus on that event.
Those open 400 runners can work hard, maybe not win a medal in the open 400, but now may worry they will not be rewarded by getting to run in the final.
This selector weirdness is not new, remember Flo Jo in the on the 4x400 in the 88 Olympics? I am sure there are other older examples
Dude, what you smoking? Sydney is the 400MH WR holder. Mu has a sub 50 400M PR and is a world and Olympic champ at her speciality and you think their being chosen to be on the 4x4 team was shenanigans? Is it because they are black why you are making such an idiotic comment? Coz it certainly cannot be based on their performances.
Further, at Worlds 2023 in Budapest, neither Sydney nor Athing were part of the USA team. It had the 4 400M specialists. What was the result of the final?
He's branding himself the chosen one, the hegemonic superstar that will elevate the entire sport but adressing a controversial politic he has concrete leverage over within his own federation is out of his reach? Yes adding him last minute in the final like he was a certified net positive for the team with no data backing it up was a problem, other members of the relay publicly pointed it out even before the race. Him missing Kerley's point to make a 9th grade's classclown level clapback show how shortsighted he's actually is when the matter slightly derived from his direct interest

Are you trying to settle on a username or do you just come up with a different one for each thread?
The US might have won had they put Lyles at anchor. That's often what they do with these superior 100m/200m talents on the 4x4. Lyles at anchor always works.

Well info what Kerley says is true that he has asked to be put on the 4 x 4 team in the past and was not allowed on he has a point. Seems like there are rules for Team USA and then there are rules for certain athletes that TV will love the story
Nah.
Indoors is not outdoors.
He ran one 60 and then parked it.
The team is always picked from those on the team. Kerley wasn't on the team
I'd love to see him run.
As for outdoors, he should be a shoe in, except there are 8 other guys with faster times in 2023, so if he doesn't run at the trials he will not be considered again
Lyles takes too many opportunities to put other people down. He should just say "Yeah. Fred is a great runner and a great guy. It would be nice to have him out here. USATF, you should consider him.". Done. The older I get, the more I realize these simple acts of inclusion just make things better. No need to put someone down, even if they are being passive-agressive. That's one thing I really like about watching Nuguse. Just a positive dude. None of the garbage the Kerr and J Ing are throwing around.
I see what you mean, but having drama gets more clicks and generates more money. You look at Basketball and Football, and they’re throwing shade at each other. Now granted that’s not the only reason why they have more money, but if you want people to be interested you have to make headlines.
