I think that one would have landed better if Jakob had won, but in that instance, Kerr wasn't the next guy, he was the first guy. His latest quip, about being able to win blindfolded is a bit elementary school level. He could have made some jibe about Kerr only leading for 400m of the whole race. At least they're engaging in a rivalry. This is much better than Jakob's previous MO of trying to imply that none of his competitors event exist. That was just boring
The “next guy” thing was never meant as a jab but set Kerr off anyway. Same thing happened after Hoare made a comment about “outclassing” him at Millrose. The blindfold thing is absurd and should tell you how seriously Jakob is taking any of this. Kerr decided to attack Jakob’s character in podcasts and interviews and all he’s gotten in return is jokes about table manners and being able to run 8:00 blindfolded lol
Yeah and meanwhile one guy has just gotten the WR and the other is home
I am a bit ambivalent here as there comes a point where he could almost appear to be a caricature of himself, this brash cocky (his fanboys may say “matter of fact” instead) kid who can usually back it up. It won’t be so endearing when he cannot back it up, and I wonder if he is partially speaking “tongue in cheek” at times just because he wants to entertain or increase interest. I credit him for making himself easy for me to root against in races.
I’m not ambivalent: I can’t stand the arrogant little prick. I would love to see him start to struggle so that he may learn some humility—although I suspect that may simply be beyond him, and we’d only see bitter nastiness and continued self-delusion instead.
There is nothing like watching train wrecks happen, in particular when arrogant little aholes are involved. I hope Josh hands him another L and we can see what other excuse Jakob comes up with.
Jakob is a gift to us track fans. He's like Muhammad Ali at this point with these quips:
"I'd have beaten him blindfolded" "It's great he's improving, so that I have someone to run with"

No, he is just doubling down on his ego and truly believes he's that exceptional. When he gets beaten he goes straight into fantasyland to cope. This is very hard for Jakob.
As good as Fisher is he is no Ingebrigtsen. Jakob at top fitness would have been running the last 1200 of that 2 mile at 58 second 400m pace not 60 second pace like Grant was. Pretty sure Jakob at top fitness would have broke Kerr before the last 200. Jakob doesn't have flat out sprint speed Kerr does but his strength is his aerobic capacity to run hard 1200 or even a mile out in a 2 mile
What is it? Jakob 11 wins vs Josh; Josh 1 win vs. Jakob? Something like that
Now do the races that count
I agree but it's like winning all your regular season games then losing the superbowls. The suerbowl is what counts. It will be interesting this summer...
Is Jakob too arrogant? Is Josh Kerr? Is Jakob really head and shoulders above the field like he seems to think? Is he compensating for his lack of a kick? Has the rest of the field caught up to him? Will he always win if he has his best day? Was he really just sick in 2023, or have recent championship races revealed true vulnerabilities? Can he drop Kerr? What about Wightman, Nuguse, and everyone else?
I don’t have good answers for these questions. Here’s one I do have an answer for…
Like I said before, maybe all this banter is getting under Jakob's skin, or perhaps it is motivating a new fire for him? Only time can tell, I can't wait until they race each other. Or, both of them know that this type of back and forth is financially beneficial to all of them? Ether way, good for the sport.
Both great athletes, who deserve a some respect… However, they seem like they are acting like two young children throwing hissy fits—in a juvenile way it is entertaining.
In 20-30 years they will both be “has-beens” and will realize a few grown up principles.

The difference, the BIG difference is: Kerr is the one starting trash talking Jakob. Jakob is only answering journalists questions when they want him to respond (and give them something, anything to write).

Am I looking forward to the 1500m in Paris?
F yes.
Great comment. So many questions to be answered this season!
