Not done, but the 1500 team, not the way to go for him. He’s not beating Yared, Hocker or Kessler if they are healthy, and there are other guys who he is not easily clear of in the 1500. He’s got a better chance of snagging the 3rd spot in the 5000 after Fisher and Nur, and yes, he should try the SC ala Beamish. Steeple is pretty soft in the US now and this could be a great fit for him.

No idea if Teare can hurdle or not, but the path with the least resistance to Paris is in the Steeple! Our team is likely to be made up of 3-guys who at their best are in the neighborhood of 8:18. And none of them have the pure talent of Cooper Teare.

He should do the 5k. If that’s doesn’t work out for the summer then try the steeple. I don’t think he is as athletic as beamish but it could work
3000 m seems like a great distance Teare. Just give it a try and see. Beamish also was skeptical at the beginning of last year, and now is going to contend for an Olympic medal this year, and he’s easily in the finals.
I think Cooper’s sweet spot is in the 3k-2 mile range and would have loved to see him in the 2 mile with Cole today. Might be an unpopular opinion, but if he can hurdle at all, I think he’d be great at steeple and the strength/speed combo would benefit him in the flat races (thinking of George Beamish here). Making the American men’s Olympic team in either the 1500 or 5k is going to be extremely tough.
I think this could be a good move for him. Historically Ben Thomas and Virginia Tech have produced very good steeplers. If he can get remotely good at hurdling he can defiitenetly contend for a world final.
Jerry turned Cooper Teare into Pooper Teare staying at bowerman would have been a huge mistake. Come June he’ll be ready to roll. If he runs the 1500m he’ll get 3rd while Kessler fades. He won’t make the final in Paris. That’s about as good he’s going to be one way or another. He wouldn’t make the 5k team. Bowerman (US guys) won’t have anyone in Paris other than maybe an also ran in the steeple.

He is the 1500m US champ, the disrespect is wild.
Not “is”, “was”. Certainly I could see a scenario where Cooper makes another 1500m team by handling rounds well, but it’s a tough field. 2022 Nuguse was being coached by Carlson and Hobbs was 18; times change.
You can say that it's February and that he will only get fitter, but that same principle also applies to the 10 or so Americans that have already run faster than him in 2024 (just in the mile). Heck, Colin Salhman has run faster and has a fiery kick.
And let's not act like he wasn't in this race trying to run 3:48. He believed that he was fit to PB and raced like it...1:54-1:58. Is he done? No, but I'm pretty sure he's disappointed in this result. He was going backwards.
Letsrun is notorious for making terrible predictions based on one result. Nuguse was supposed to dethrone Jakob after running 3:47i last year and has still never beaten him. Kerr was “finished” after getting 9th in Oslo and became World Champion 2 months later.
It’s way too early to say Teare is done or needs to move up. He’s run 3:50.17 with a massive negative split and won a super slow national championship that came down to the last lap. He has the skill set to be a world class 1500m runner and belongs in the event as much as any of the other top Americans.

No disrespect, just realistic. I’ve been watching Teare since he was in 9th grader competing in our local Bay Area conference and I’m a fan, but no, he’s not the US 1500 m champ. You are seriously not paying attention. You really believe Teare has the talent in the 1500 of the other three?? He’s not in their league in that event. Can he make the team if one of them is hurt, yes, possibly. Can he make the 5000 team or SC team (assuming he takes to that event), possible.
He literally is....
Look at a guy like alan webb. One of most talented US men ever, ran fast times, but could never get close to competing for medals on the Olympic/WC stage. Couldn't put it all together and race when it actually matters.
Thats why we actually race. Teare has proven he can win on the day. It is insane to count him out.

Or they peaked to early. Or they get hurt. Or they start doing speedwork. It goes either way.
Good or bad, Febuary just does not matter.
Also, I do believe the man who was running a 10k cross country race just 3 weeks ago wasn't going to PB in the mile. I think Cooper thought he had some great base fitness and wanted to hop in a fast track race to see what he could do. Since february doesn't matter.

Listen, it’s not fun to predict the future after it already happens. Could Teare make the 1500 team, sure he could. People get sick or injured or trip during the race or a lot of things. At the same time, watching Yared (not even a close call), Hocker and now Kessler, I think it’s clear they are far more talented at the 1500. All three of them are legit Olympic medal contenders right now, and are on a path to be so through 2028. Teare might sneak on the team, or sneak into the final, but he’s no threat to the likes of Jakob or Kerr and you know it. There is no way you would pick Teare to have a more accomplished 1500 career than the other three, no way.

I feel like a very strong win at XC + crashing to a 3:53 isn't sooo bad.
At least I wouldn't rule out a 3:48 in summer and sub 13. If he stays calm & healthy nothing is lost and lots of time till summer.

Only Nuguse is a legit Olympic medal contender. Kessler and Hocker are final contenders.
