So proud of Weini. She’s so hardworking and persistent. Always been right there in the top 7 or so on the track, but never top 3. Knew she was due a breakthrough at some point. Also a fan of how she loves to race frequently.
Congratulations on her outstanding and impressive 1/2 marathon debut. Hopefully she can build on this and not be another Jordan Hasay. I anticipated so much more from Jordan once she found her distance in the 1/2 and marathon but it was short lived but hopefully Weini has a long and marathon career equally impressive as this debut.

She is already a league beyond Jordan Hasay because she now holds an American record. So proud of her, she has been grinding for years being on the top 1-5 of a lot of championship road races. To me, she is consistent blue collar type of runner that has never gotten the credit or attention that she deserves I've been rooting for her for forever, so glad to see her consistent hard work pay off!!
Can't wait for her to murder the marathon! AR incoming ...
...
Me too. If she picks a fast marathon for her debut I wouldn't be surprised at sub 2,:20 debut. As long as she continues to increase her low mileage gradually and focus on the half and marathon...she could be a 2;16-2:17 marathoner at the very least.

This race predicts a low-30/10k . . . her pr is 31:04.
She'll get her first top-3 appearance in the 10k at USAs this summer . . . and may be fast enough to contend with former-college-rival Monson for the title.
Despite all the chatter re: marathon, next year is the Tokyo Worlds . . . which may keep Weini on the track a little longer, just to see how fast & far she can go in the 10k before turning full-time to the roads . . .
If the article is right, 60 miles a week max previously seems ridiculously low for her given her events. With her lack of speed i'd have had her putting in near 100 miles per week. This might be the year she breaks big but if that'll be enough for the Olympics between Monson, Cranny, Andrews, Henes, Rogers, etc, that'll be another question.
I was going to go on a tirade against Weini and foreign nationals in the NCAA, but in Weini's case I make an exception. Almost as the exception to the rule she sat out her senior year in HS because she gave her actual age when she enrolled.
There are way too many American runners wasting time on the track.
Maybe, her performance today is because she ‘wasted time on the track’..?! Ever thought about about that?
Too many downvotes; she has developed all/most of her speed and high-end aerobic capacity training for 5/10k on the track, now she transfers all of that into the hmth and possibly the full marathon. Nothing has been wasted, get a grip people.
At least she went to high school and college here.
That’s a stretch. She started HS here at 19 or something and had already been running JR international level before the US poached her. Her entry into the US is mad weird. She did the same thing you guys usually whine about on the board (skipping visa). She manipulated our soft rules and it worked in her favor.
Imagine running 1:06 and breaking the American Record, then watching the Trials on TV, having to watch all those people celebrate, knowing you just smoked all of their PBs.
Is she going to run the Olympic marathon trials in Orlando?
To my knowledge, she is not ready for the marathon yet.
As she is she could go out and run a low 2:20, there are only a couple US women who can run within a minute of her in a half. But she has missed the qualifying deadline for the trials. So I guess she'll be trying to make the 10,000m team.
She went to high school here but you knew that. Go to therapy buddy.
It's pretty dishnoest to acknowledge the genetic advantage East Africans have, and then claim one as homegrown because she moved here when she was 17.
So should we start placing handicaps on those of East African descent? Nuguse has to start 50m back of everyone else at the US trials now to make it fair?
