Cal Baptist coach is really bad and getting them ready for NCAA’s. The did the same thing at regionals last year.
Vin is not a good coach anymore. He all ego, but there are better coaches now and he’s too old.
Mick is very inconsistent as a coach since at Wisconsin. He tends to blow up and make bad decisions.
I believe multiple of their guys went down at the start of NCAA's. If you watch the broadcast you see 2 or 3 guys fall in the stampede and all of them were CBU.
Still think they underperformed but I'm sure that had a part in the result.

Shouldn't there have been a restart?
One of their guys broke their shoulder from the fall. Didn’t even hit the first split. Their two top guys on that day fell hard as well. It was too late for a restart.
At regionals they nearly fell over each other at the start as well.
If you’re gonna hate, acknowledge the facts. How many teams have their #4/#5 guy break their shoulder at the start and still take top 20 as a team. Pretty good day considering…
Haven't seen anyone mention Tennessee men. 26th, 17 spots below their Lacctic prediction and 11 down from their nationals-week 15th rating. Anyone know the story there? Looks like they got out about mid-pack and then just collectively died a slow death.
Digging into it a little more, looks like it boils down to their top guy having a terrible day. Went out in the top 15 and faded the entire race to finish at 187 and not even score...
Hmmm... I don't know if I would quite say that they choked. They did take in the full length of that initial straight, not wasting any time to get to the front. They packed together tightly and kept in going for as long as they could before giving one last ditch effort to gulp down the rest of the course. But, they just couldn't keep up the required pace. This isn't "choking"; it was simply over-exuberance.
I bet they learn to not bite off more than they can chew, and since they clearly were not afraid to try to take it, I bet they'll do well in the future.
I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt, but now that I read your post, it seems as if they choked and went out to fast.
Their No.1 guy, Yaseen Abdalla, was pretty sick going into the race, which is why he struggled so much, and they finished below expectations as a team. However, their women did great.

Much as I was over-exuberant in my reply and choked by typing "to" instead of "too".
BYU women didn’t choke. They were ranked third coming in and could have easily gone home with a third place trophy if that’s is what they wanted. Instead, they tried to steal a win against two very good teams. It didn’t work, but I admire them for trying to win it all instead of conservatively collecting yet another podium finish.
Coming here to set the record straight re Wisco - my understanding is that 2 of Wisconsin's top 5 guys were pretty sick coming into the race at Nats, hence why you didn't even see them toe the line at regionals.
Now as to why they held guys out at Nutty and ('intentionally') did so poorly there... I don't have any excuses for you.
can confirm. they all live in a house together and mick put the two guys that weren't sick in a hotel to prevent them from getting sick too. one of their top 5 guys (bishop) didn't even finish nats (although he usually chokes anyway). that's why they ran regionals w/out most of their top guys. also no idea on nutty tho

Stop with the sick excuses. Mick is been a hind ride.
My coach always said put yourself in a position to do something great. BYU women did just that but the other side of that coin is obviously disaster when reaching for greatness. That last 2k was about as rough a finish I've seen for a team.

That explains 2 of the 5 rough days Wisconsin had. Sharp beat Brady by 30+ seconds at Nutty and 12 seconds at Big Tens; Brady beat him by 14 at NCAAs. Liking obviously beat him by more at Big Tens and was further back at Nats. Really sucks for Ellenberg and Bishop, but two sick guys doesn't tell the whole story of Wisconsin at NCAAs this year, and certainly not the past 10+ years.

Isn't this literally the definition of choking?
No it isn’t. Choking would be the third ranked team trying to finish third but blowing up and finishing 14th. Choking isn’t the third ranked team laying it all on the line in an effort to beat the top two teams (who are historically good) and seeming to almost pull it off through 4k only to then blow up.
NAU women's team have to be kicking themselves. Elise Stearns underperformed badly, I don't think she's finished that far back in years. Ali Upshaw finishing 57th was also disappointing. first time in the spotlight and nerves really showed.
maybe theres a silver lining - NC State came in second to BYU before going on their threepeat.
Upshaw was sick. Wasn’t nerves for her.
LRC posters do not permit anyone to use illness as the reason for poor performance (I personally disagree with this LRC sentiment). See thread on NCSt winning the title and one their runners is being shamed for saying exactly what you just said. I’m with you even though LRC isn’t.
