Do you think BU TF/XC as a program is profitable then? Shouldn’t they be one of the most profitable teams on campus besides hockey and maybe one of the more profitable track teams in the country?
Supply and demand. To build and maintain those kinds of facilities takes a spit-ton of money. Be glad that BU spent the cash to allow athletes world wide to come get their perspective standards. It was 200 million dollars to build back in 2002. It'd be about 500 million today. Pay your $107 and move on.
Did you mean 'prospective standards' by any chance?
Your economics knowledge is worse than your track knowledge dude. If your 401K is down 33% then you need help with the basics. GDP is booming, unemployment at 40 year low, inflation is back down under 3%. Biden did not cause the inflation - it was a worldwide post-pandemic phenomenon of supply unable to keep up with demand bounce-back — and our US inflation came down much quicker than elsewhere. Without massive layoffs. Biden stuck the soft landing dude.

Things are not as good as you seem to think, at least for most.
Does anybody know if they take official 1500m splits for the mile races at BU? I looked at the TFRRS results from last year and it did not list them like it did for meets at the Armory.
Ramsden in the 3000 might be setting her and team up for DMR/3000 double. They have a 4:18 1500 runner from last Spring (Salmon), a 52.5 400 runner, now Gorriaran and Ramsden. That could be quite a team.

SP500 is up 40% since Biden took office. Imagine losing 33% in those conditions and blaming it on Biden lmao you need to stop gambling your money.
There will be over 200 Men and 200 Women that enter this 5k event at $100 a piece. Not to mention the $75 to enter the 3k. BU stands to make a great deal of money from the Season Opener. The track is fast and the market supports it. Build a plywood track and get a piece for yourself
So the meet is fully booked. When a road 5k is 40 bucks, a climate controlled speed fest being 100 is expensive, but doesn't seem completely insane. 60 would be more palatable, I agree. But I mean this is basically the best 5k in the country. Run the BU mini meets instead. They are cheaper. Same track. Same FAT. Or be a sucker and pay up. We are all suckers now and then.
Look at the entry lists, almost 2/3 of the field is probably going to be flying in here from somewhere. Between airfare, hotel, food, ground transportation, and coaches' share of expenses, you're probably looking at $1000-$2000 per athlete. If people want to come here that badly BU would be foolish to charge anything under $100.

Excellent observation.
Those prs could translate to 3:22-53-2:03-4:30 = 10:48 . . . WA ran 10:46 this past winter for the new collegiate record . . . but 10:48 would tie for 2nd AT . . .
well, I don’t know about “make a great deal of money”, but maybe just enough to justify the existence of this meet. You wrote 200 +200 runners at $107 apiece, so $40k, and what about $10k for the other events in total? … it’s not hard to imagine 50 K getting swallowed up pretty quick for running a meet of this magnitude. … timing, extra security, gotta pay overhead costs for keeping the lights and heat on, administrative support, etc.
Running seems like it should be free, and relatively speaking, it’s not so bad. Things cost money.
A large part of the staff at meets are volunteers. If only 400 runners, should only be a few thousand for timing. Again, some of the security will be volunteers . . . $15/ hour for each professional security guard ( how many do they need ?). They'll make thousands of dollars selling food and drinks (shirts?) And thousands more on parking/ticket sales
They don't make money. They are a nonprofit university. They are advertising the price. It would only be a problem if they required registration and then informed registrants of the proce. They are prividing a service thaat apears to be in high demand which means they are under charging.
Unpopular opinion, but these races should have a sliding scale entry fee. It's a high level meet that all the fast people go to. It shouldn't be bogged down by slow people trying to get in. There are plenty of other meets a guy can run a 15 minute 5k or a girl can run a 17 minute 5k.
It'd be best if they streamline these things with just the elite heats and can get a tight viewing window for online streaming, possibly even a TV slot if the meet gets big enough in the coming years.
BU hosts a ton of meets per year, not all of them are the agreed upon big ones where the fast people show up.
