Early 30s ... maybe late 20s, never really cared. 56 now and it is all grey/white depending on the light. Also, really wavy ... sometimes I sport the mad scientist look.
Lol I started getting greys popping up at like 18. My whole dads side of the family(him and 4 brothers) always went Grey early too 🤷🏻♂️. Late 30s now and at least half Grey in head and beard
Don't want to jinx it, but I am 35 and do not have a single grey hair anywhere. Both of my parents only started going grey way late, like early 60s really, and my brother is 40 and does not have any visible grey. I have known many people who start getting grey hairs around 30 though and think it's common to have at least individual grey hairs at that age. My high school cross country coach told us his hair was completely white by the time he was 28, so there are people like that also.
As a guy, I say own it. As a lady, if it's just a little, no big deal, though in general, women look better if they don't have significant grey. Once you're over 50 it doesn't matter as much, but I have seen some women in their 30s and 40s who would look a lot better if they tended to those grey areas.
Vitamin Deficiencies: Lack of vitamins like B12, iron, copper, and zinc can sometimes cause premature graying.
Thyroid Disorders: Conditions like hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism have been associated with premature graying.
Autoimmune Diseases: Conditions like alopecia areata can cause premature graying as part of more generalized hair loss.
Hormonal Imbalances: Disruptions in hormones can also affect hair color.
Oxidative Stress: This is a condition in which antioxidants in the body are outnumbered by free radicals, which may contribute to premature graying.
Good to know. I had a lot of gray on the sides of my head in high school (like maybe 100) but it never increased, and it actually may have decreased until now in my late 30s. It must have been vitamin deficiency because I ate like kaka in high school while running. The access to healthy foods every day at lunch and before practice was just non existent.
It's not normal for twentysomething dudes to be getting grey hair - that's weird. 🤔
I'm 62 & have started to get some grey hair on my sideburns.
This guy seems to be very unintelligent or unobservant.^
Moving on to real life:
Most but definitely not all men get some grey in their 30s, almost all will within their 40s. Usually the beard starts first.
Similar to balding, it varies a lot, and certainly some will start in their 20s, even early 20s but of course mostly late.
Don't tell me I'm wrong. As a primary care doctor I have hundreds of male patients (whose ages I know), all of them at some stage on this path (and most of them asking what's normal). Also many dozens of young adult to middle aged male acquaintances, whom unlike FRTB above I actually see when I talk with them.
FWIW, I got a few beard greys in my early 40s, and now at 44 the beard is about 1/4 grey. It happened fast. Very small but growing number of greys on the temple area. So I was late-to-average to the grey game. (But started balding in my late 20s - ha!)
I'm 65, fair-skinned blue-eyed female of mostly northern European ancestry, and I have no gray hairs that I'm aware of. My face has enough wrinkles to look 65 but my hair looks 35. Both of my parents went gray relatively late in life, but both had some gray by age 60.
That's interesting.
Most of the older Scandinavians I know didn't exactly go grey as distinctly as darker-haired people, who literally get stand-out white/grey hairs amidst a field of black or brown.
Scandinavians usually have this thing where their blonde just gets whiter and duller. Kind of hard to describe, but if you know, you know. There is less of a clear onset of "grey."
The best way to get rid of the prominence of grey hairs (and also the male-baldness pattern) is to get rid of them, literally. I shave my hair with the shortest guard possible, sort of actually going completely bald. Once you muster up the confidence to do it, you'll be done worrying about this for good.
This. With early male pattern baldness (though very limited greys), I have been doing the Bruce Willis since my late 20s.
I really don't understand why there are so many sensitive girly men on this board. Must be a lot of guys with gray hair upset they look creepy hitting on younger girls.
As a greybeard 44 y.o. I think I look pretty good with my hot 32 y.o. GF, tbh.
