Less than 2% of the student body are transfers. Less than 1% are transfers from JUCOs. The transfer requirements are similar to high school entrance. Thousands of 4.0 and 35 ACT students get rejected. How many JUCO students have a 35?
This is just personal experience, but I did have a friend who grew up in CA and chose to go to a community college for the first two years. He has a genius IQ! This guy could do anything; if he wanted to go to med school he could. He's highly capable. He later transferred to a private university for his final two years (not Stanford, but another school). I don't think attending a community college for the first two years affected his career trajectory at all. He had a goal to graduate debt-free, and he also wanted to pay for higher education 100% himself without asking his parents for $. I believe he did both, though I'm not 100% sure.
(side note: I have no idea what his parents' financial situation was, but again - he lived in CA where the cost of living is $$)
