That said, I think it is ridiculous for anyone to suggest that some sort of auditing be done. When a person freely gives, they do not get to have any audit (unless one was promised beforehand). You give, and then the money goes where it goes, and that's that. There will be organizations that provide audits because they want potential donors to feel assured that the money is being well-spent, which then helps for future fundraising efforts. But, that is not required. If you give, give with a cheerful heart and don't be so miserly as to demand that the recipient has to spend it as you require or be the victim of a smear campaign. Ugh... everyone is so ugly these days.
there's a certain former president who is no longer legally allowed to operate a charity for misusing donor funds because he used your logic. not sure how that applies to a gofundme, but i would think, yeah, fraud is an option there too, and fraudsters most certainly should be prosecuted imo
