Except, Big Bear is a trash training location. Of all the places with altitude and the ability to drop down for workouts, Big Bear is objectively probably the worst option.
-Big Bear is a MUCH smaller cost in terms of real estate compared to Mammoth. I haven't look lately, but it's probably around a 1/3 as much.
-You can take the highway 18 down the backside of the mountain to the high desert to run where there are plenty of dirt roads/trails to run so you obviously do not know the area. Brosnan's wife ran for Hesperia HS so she obviously knows the place. That altitude would be lower than Mammoth where their groups drops down to Bishop to run and that's a tad over 4K. There's also Costco and everything else needed in the high desert and you can be in Hesperia in an hour. In Mammoth it takes a full day to Carson/Reno as you are looking at 3+ hours these days each way.
-If you want a little drive you could jump over the highway 15 to run the San Gabriel mountains as well out of Wrightwood and grab a few beers at the Yodler.
I've lived in Wrightwood and Mammoth and in all honestly...I like the mountain biking and running in Big Bear much more. If I recall NORBA (mountain bike race association) used to favor Big Bear over Mammoth as well and held their national championships there, but that's been awhile. Don't get me wrong both are great for other things, but getting a longer, flatter or sustaining small gradual hill is more difficult to find in Mammoth (and yes people I'm aware of Shady Rest Park in Mammoth). It's more steep up and downs. In Big Bear they are everywhere across that plateau.
Really appreciate your knowledgeable input, Tinker Juarez would approve.
First the Brosnan fanboys (or Brosnan himself) were saying he's better off not at UCLA because he'll definitely get a pro job.
Now the fanboys are saying coaching JUCO is a great opportunity for Brosnan and he'll make a ton of money.
In 6 months, the fanboys will be saying Brosnan is making $150k driving Uber by getting HUGE tips because he's the best driver.
question:
is it AT ALL possible that there are different people with different opinions posting on the world famous letsrun.com message board? Or are you 100% certain it was the same people who made the UCLA/JUCO observations?
Can someone explain the Brosnan hate? As someone who knows very little about the man, other than he seems like a way above average high school (my high school coach was an cigar smoking assistant football coach with a huge beer belly that was forced to coach track every Spring against his will and hated it), I'm genuinely curious to hear actual reasons why so many people absolutely loathe the dude????
Have you met him or spent any time with him?
Here's a small list of what people claim his issues are (not saying I agree or believe them). Please don't come on here and argue all these points fanboys. I'm just saying what people have said here on the message boards as a summary of the issues people have with him.
He's exaggerated his place in the running world. He used to falsely tell everyone he's a 9xAA at Adam's St and his PR's were better than they were in actuality.
He was accused of breaking many rules while he was coaching at NP, which he denies. I believe it was something like 15 complaints to CIF.
He constantly name drops and talks about his tight relationships with all the top coaches, which many people think is an overstatement of his interactions with these coaches.
He seems to publicly take the credit for NP's success more than deferring to the kids (see NXN trophy presentation moment as example).
People have said he is incapable of having any normal conversation that isn't focused on running.
He doesn't seem to factor in how his colleague's will react to some of his decisions, but rather does what he wants, how he wants to do it. Sounds like many of his colleagues that coached for many years in his area were put off by his lack of respect for how things worked.
He views his coaching as revolutionary and places himself among the top tier of coaches, while his training is just like most of the current coaches who are far more experienced and accomplished than him.
He is very unethical, whether it's breaking rules at UCLA, breaking rules in his high school league with practice rules, not following the guidelines during COVID, it all adds up to someone who thinks rules and guideline don't apply to him and he's always looking for an angle to live in the grey areas of rules.
He looks for every opportunity to promote himself. See his "The Rise" video series as an example.
People make fun of his hair gel usage and 2000's boy band look.
He posts on Letsrun constantly under a bunch of anonymous names, calling anyone who doesn't think he's great a jealous hater who has serious problems and needs help.
Like I said, this is a general list of some of the issues I've heard over and over on the message boards. I'm sure others could add some I've missed. Fanboys can waste their time shooting down the opinions, but this was an honest attempt to answer the question above based on previous threads.
Have you ever meet him I don’t think so.
Your sincere attempt here does not give “actual reasons” it just list lists rumors from anonymous posters on Letsrun vs verified comments with their source.
You are biased & just listing crap you like. I am sure your next move will be to say I am Brosnan (won’t be the first time). I had big problems with how the guy was holding the NXN trophy but now after seeing the constant cheap shots thrown at him I sympathize. You people are disgusting.

So, reading comprehension must not be a strong suit. It's OK, I won't take it personally.
As I said, I'm not saying I necessarily agree or believe it, but those are things that have been mentioned in other's posts. The person asked why people seem to have hate for him and I was just listing what I've read on a regular basis.
I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. Brosnan will not go the JUCO route (never really considered that a feasible option tbh), but rather, he will form a new professional group, based in Cali, with Grant as the foundation. The starts are aligning poetically, and I am fully engaged.

Only issue with your theory is that Grant is moving to SLC. He’s already there, in fact.
Big Bear (7,000’ +), year round, pro caliber facility training camp/team

What you would be smart to take personally is that your communication skills are pretty crude. See, when you make a cover your ass statement like “this is a general list…..” & that fanboys can’t present differing opinions. Well it nullifies all your points. They become nothing more than bs gossip that you are trying to use for character assassination.

I heard his kid ran for Newbury Park and Brosnan 2 years ago.

Someone asked a question that I tried to answer. They obviously haven't read the previous threads about Brosnan, so I tried to summarize the main things I've read. Have any of my points not been been brought up previously in other threads?
I hope "genuinely curious" now has an answer to their question.

You did leave out the pretentious coffee brewing process.

Does Sean own property in Big Bear?
But I agree Big Bear isn't that great a place to train. I went from Flagstaff to BB to train for the track trials because a teammate let me use his house in BB. I found it too hilly. I remember the flat places to run were around the lake on roads or sidewalk.
You can get to really low altitude quicker from BB than Flag. What other places are even viable in the US that are 7000 feet or higher?
Exactly. This would have been the correct progression. The jump to UCLA was nonsensical. He can be a legend in his own mind at the juco level, pontificate while staring off camera and develop runner he recruits.
The jump from NP to UCLA made perfect sense. Here was a coach who could create some buzz and potentially attract many of the top in-state stars. And, for all his sliminess, he can also actually coach. He probably would have been quite successful long term if he wasn't already looking ahead for the next job, and didn't poach athletes from other colleges.

Except the facts are Brosnan didn’t poach any athletes and that was just Vin Lananna being salty he’s not the man anymore or just letsrun rumors. This was proven and already debunked. Brosnan and UCLA had no violations. UCLA has had administrative problems for years. They will get an entire new staff next year when Avery Anderson’s contract is up in June. The problem comes from the top, not the coaches. UCLA continues to produce nada and it comes from administration. They don’t care about Olympic sports or Brosnan.

How was it proven and already debunked? Was there a public announcement? Rumors I keep hearing is that investigations are still ongoing.
This whole narrative that a coach from another school was upset, so UCLA fired Brosnan is laughable. So is the notion that they fired him because they don’t care about XC and track. Then why did they hire him in the first place?

There are only a handful of universities major universities in the country that care about XC success.
Track and cross-country aren't football. Brosnan didn't understand this. The first job of any minor sport coach at a college is: do not cause any problems, don't be a headache.
Success is a bonus. Look at how many well-funded programs keep coaches with poor results for years, even decades. Why? They don't cause any problems and don't demand too much, so the AD can focus on football and basketball.
A JUCO coaching gig at $25K per year. What an embarrassing situation for a middle age man.
I don't think you know what JUCO coaches make. The ones I know teach a couple of classes and make over 100k.
You obviously don't know what they make. I coached a very successful juco program and I topped out at $28,500. I eventually left because I just couldn't make it. The coach they hired after I left made $21,500.

OK but the thing is that he genuinely does post on the forums defending himself under anonymous usernames. And the reality is that this could genuinely be Brosnan and I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest.
Let me see if I can find the forum where his departure from UCLA broke and he was 100% anonymously posting
