Wow, I had no idea who you were talking about and thought you were being unreasonably mean, even for Letsrun standards. But I found the guy on strava (not hard to search a few of the 2:16 guys in the results)… and he really did say 2:18 is easy. The fact that he doesn’t realize (or doesn’t care) how elitist that statement is…. Just wow
Who gives a fk if it sounds elitist. Sorry your feelings got hurt.
If US sub-elite runners were all like this dude, who would the younger guys have to look up to? I wasn’t too far behind him on Saturday - I don’t care what he has to say about 2:18 being easy. But it’s not good for the sport to encourage this behavior.
Anyway, he’s probably just a bit insecure and will hopefully mature out of it.

I’m not so sure. He’s done this for a long time on social. And you can probably guess who in these comments he is. Not a shred of self-awareness.
I do think 2:12 and maybe even 2:10 is in this guy's wheelhouse. It'll take a lot more grind and a little more time, but it's addressable. He's been on a massive upwards trajectory post some injury troubles. A little cocky. A lot confident, but also somebody down for the grind and I can get behind that.
The 2:18 statement doesn't look good, but he's well beyond 2:18 being his peak. A lot of guys underperformed that day. Humidity was near 100%. Cramping may have been a downflow effect here… I heard it from many.
This guy spoke on IG too, and he has a fresh prospective that’s better delivered with his mouth. He mentioned his personal frustration, but satisfaction with the achievement and recognition of its’ importance to others that day.
So I’ll give this guy a pass. Tough day, and potential for a bright future. He’s kind, and he trains with a lot of the current best we’ve got. He’s good for the sport.
Maybe I’m missing something.. I just think he’s young and full of potential. Some personality that comes along is kind’ve nice. Let the guy live a bit.. see how it goes

Is this one of those guys who races every workout at 4:50-5:00 pace and thinks they'll magically run that pace for over 2 hours of running in a race? I think I stumbled across an instagram video of this person. It's weird seeing people post things making it seem like they're the best there is, but in reality there's literally a hundred other Americans no one has ever heard of who are still faster. Including me anonymously, but I don't care to be known so I'm not out there making instragram videos trying to hype myself up.
I agree but let him flex a bit. At least he is legitimately fast and not your local Trukey Trot fast. The worst is someone barely running 2:40s flexing.
I’ll take ambition in a prospect any day. If he flounders, it’ll be a spectacular failure. But I’m willing to hear him out and let the future results speak for themselves. A bunch of hyper critical forum goers won’t change my mind there.. an it won’t change the minds of the younger, expanding generation that follows
