Hi -- I think biological males in female sport is an issue, but can be please reserve the outrage and posting on a site for college and older individuals?
No one cares if your daughter got "robbed" of her North League Regional Championship 5th place and she was 6th (if you are well adjusted, that "no one" includes you and her). Let's respect humanity first at the level 18 and under and reserve the debate for when dollars and legitimate accolades come into play.
Ever done an amateur bike race and lost to someone with an SWorks setup? Ever run a race and lost to someone with Vaporflies? The beautiful thing about running is that unless your name is Kipchoge or Bolt, you are never really the best in the world. It only matters who shows up for the race, or what grade you are in when a phenom comes through, or if you got lucky and someone better got the flu. My highschool teammate won the 1600 and 3200 at state because the clear class of the field got the flu that week. Does that make him a better runner? Nah, man. It was who showed up.
I won a marathon normally won in 2:35-2:45 with a 2:46 because nobody showed up on the day. That doesn't make me better than if I got 3rd or 4th in a normal year, mang. Teach your kids to enjoy running itself. As Rupp said in his interview yesterday, "Yes I compete with others for a living, but at the end of the day running is a sport where you compete with yourself -- from yesterday, the year a before, or more." As Ryan Hall said "I try to remind my daughters: Hey, it's not about the performance, it's not about what place you are. Can you just fall in love with the sensation of your body being in flight? Because if you can fall in love with that sensation, you're going to get everything out of running that you want to get out of running. That's where the good stuff is at ... it's not finishing a certain place or going to the Olympics or any of that stuff. It's the beauty of the sensation of your body in full flight."
