At this writing a shutdown appears certain and is about 27 hours away. I'm not interested in assigning blame for it or having political arguments, just want to know how it affects people--if at all--in their daily lives.
My impression/memory is that most people handled the last shutdown just fine--but I could be expunging the bad effects from my memory, I suppose.
Anyway, keep us posted. How ya doin'?
I am a GS-12 and my wife is a GS-11 we are both not shut down and will still be working both DoD. I also get VA which is not being disturbed.
This will lead to a lower credit rating for the US -- credit agencies have specifically downgraded the US recently because of inadequate federal governance and this shutdown is a terrible example of that. That WILL harm the 401Ks which tens of millions of Americans are heavily reliant on for their future.
This shutdown is BAD news for working, responsible Americans.
There is zero correlation between a government shutdown and 401K performance.
"Adding to the volatility is chaos in America’s Congress. Markets continue to reel from a narrowly avoided federal government shutdown last weekend over the fiscal budget. And Tuesday, House Republicans voted to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his role because he worked with Democrats to avoid the shutdown.
“The news out of the House today once again highlights the difficult political backdrop in addressing such issues,” said Michael Reinking, manager of NYSE research.
Moody’s, the only major credit rating firm to keep a perfect score for the United States, has warned that a government shutdown would be “credit negative” for the United States. More political disorder could also potentially trigger a downgrade."

You're not embarassed by how low on the scale you are?
Anyway, let's revive this thread in mid-Nov. when the real sh*tdown happens. Nothing brings holiday cheer quite like political chaos (again).
