Sean Brosnan is truly unbelievable. He coached TWO athletes so well in high school that they ended up later becoming Olympic caliber athletes thanks to his brilliant training. The man is so much better than the mediocre middle aged white coach reading this that it is hard to put into words.
Boomer coaches are truly, utterly, FINALLY cucked. Brosnan wins again.
Nico is a baby. And he just made the Olympic team. He could make four or five more teams before aging out. Not only are you wrong here, but you’re potentially wrong in 2028, 2032, 2036, 2040, and 2044 when he makes the marathon team at 41. And then there’s Colin and the twins. You should time travel. See the sights. Buy some popcorn.
Wait a minute. I think you are giving props to the wrong person. It is obvious the coach at the Camarillo Cosmos is the genius. He or she coached TWO athletes so well in youth track that they ended up later becoming Olympic caliber athletes thanks to their brilliant training. The training is genius and is the perfect transition from the Camarillo Cosmos to Newbury Park to NAU. I mean, look at the progression from little 8 year olds to where they are now. Someone at the Cosmos put them on the path to greatness.

Colin isn’t make it this year. And I can’t see him wanting to compete at an elite level at 41

Brosnan deserves no credit for this, give it to Mike Smith
Why does one of his coached get 0 recognition? I agree Mike Smith did more. But would Nico have gone to NAU if it weren't for the fact that he was the top recruit of 2020? I think he deserves credit for making him good in high school.
Brosnan did a crappy job with the talent he had. Look at how much Nico has improved. A real coach woud have had him running faster in high school. Brosnan is sort of a goof who just got very lucky with talent.
Not sure if this is what motivated you to write this post, but the Newbury Park hate/"they'll never amount to anything" is getting really annoying. Nico and Colin did amazing this year, and the younger group is on the come up too. It's really sad to see people trashing them for some reason (maybe jealousy, even though a lot of highschool, college, pro runners and plenty of people besides have nothing but respect for them)
He dominated NXN then didn't get a senior track season bc of covid. In his freshman year he made an immediate impact on NAU xc. Did you expect Brosnan to have him in 13 min shape as a junior in hs?

I hope this is joking. NY is the fastest under 23 non African distance runner ever. Hard to see that his HS coach did much wrong.
I see it like this: when someone runs fastastic HS times, some people will say "yeah, he gets burned". When someone develops very well after, some will say "he shouda ran (sic!) faster in HS". I don't think as a HS coach you can coach and everyone here is giving props, there will always be negativity. I think at the very least Brosnan gave those guys motivation through very good results and a good base. Without a good base you wouldn't see NY run 26:52 at the age of 21 or Sahlman run 3:33/13:38 at 21.
Heck, I had a coach until 20 that trained me way too intense, but solid threshold work & mileage. After changing coaches I had a very good base and with smarter intensity bettered my 5k by 49", 10k by 2+ minutes, got 2 x national champion and almost an Olympic berth in the marathon.
I don't get the negativity. Even I understand it was at least an ok foundation for later success. And you for sure cannot blame your HS coach for getting better afterwards, when you reach Sahlman's or Youngs level at still such a young age. At least this is my take on this.
That being said I feel it is relatively easy to develop a good talent to at least 1:50/4:00/8:40ish, when u "only" cover the based and don't overtrain. 6-7 days of running, some doubles, developing threshold, sprint speed, speed endurance (like a couple very quick 200 - 600s). Running is not rocket science. I do not like the Coach JS "one size fits all" and always low mileage and singles, but when you look at what JI does, OAC, etc... it is very basic training 95 % of the time, regardless if you're coaching a 4:40 11th grader or a 3:43 miler.

bro ran 7:56 in high school dawg how much faster than a national record can you expect
the real take is that Nico's record should've gotten smashed by one of his brothers. Lex was .1 off as a junior. Just imagine what we could've gotten if L&L went to NAU :(

Well it's also partially the fact that they HAD such a good youth program.
In most American high schools, most distance runners are disgruntled soccer players and swimmers, or athletes who didn't train running until 7th grade at the earliest.
Props to them for actually recognizing talent and assembling a program like this.

I assume you're talking about the 10000m specifically, but seriously come on...
