All the speculation here is pretty pathetic. No one knows what goes on in families. All one can hope for is healing and depending on the underlining issues and triggers, that can take decades if at all! Look to your own families!
Breaking: ignorant poster doesn't know Norway is not an American state!
"Violence against children is illegal in Norway. This applies to all forms of violence including corporal punishment and use of physical violence in child rearing. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the European Convention on Human Rights are incorporated into Norwegian law."
Parents are responsible for providing care and protection for their children. However, if the parents are unable to do so, the Child Welfare Services is obliged by law to provide whatever help necessary to ensure that childre...

BREAKING: Illiterate Zoomer falls victim to a straw man fallacy and doesn't realize that Norway makes up 0.07% of the world. The fact remains that most of the posters on LRC are from America and ~90% of the world's children live in countries where corporal punishment and other physical violence against children are still legal.
Insane to think that some people spend their free time going online and defending people who hit their kids. Can't imagine what else you consider normal.

Damn dude thats crazy so your saying the legality of something determines if it's ethical or not? You do know that over and over again the studies have found that corporal punishment has negative outcomes for children when they grow up?
Here's the truth, people like you think kids are their property that they can do ad they will to. You don't look at them as people, just an extension of yourself. You want to have some measure of control over your crappy life and you take it where you can get it.
Friendly reminder, cherish your family and your kids if you have a relationship with them as you never know when it will end.
I wonder if Gjert thinks it was worth it. He raised an Olympic champion but 2 years later, he's not even at the wedding of that Olympic champion.
As a Norwegian I have never ever heard of that "Onlinenytt.com". There is nothing in the major news outlets like NRK, VG, Dagbladet, TV2 or Nettavisen.
If it was El G and his dad, no way this is happening. And this is why El G shall be forever set apart his 1500m and mile WR from Jakob's. El G is a paragon of moral virtue and the results that flow from it which are his 1500m and mile WR stems from it.
What this all means is that it's not possible for Jakob to obtain the same set of results as El G or better it unless his moral virtues are at least equal to or better than El G's.
However, the way I look at it, Jakob is too old to learn new moral virtues which are usually set from the ages of 0-18 yrs old which is why the 1500m and mile WR has got to be over for him.
Unless I see sudden, sharp and drastic change in moral character in him, such as suddenly a photo of him hugging and kissing Gjert, all smiles and happiness it is highly unlikely he has any chance to break the 1500m and mile WRs. Sorry if I offended anybody here but that's the pure truth.
Not true, the studies that show corporal punishment has negative results of upbringing of children hadn't taken into account anthropogenic RF exposure. If you change the frequency of the generation of airwaves, you change the brain integrity, cellular behavior and other regulation of the human mind resulting in completely different views and beliefs in space and time. Anthropogenic RF has the power to do all these undesirable stuff to the nervous system. It's really 'evil' these stuff.....
So it isn't corporal punishment per se but corporal punishment working in tandem and conditioned by the prevailing generation of anthropogenic RF in the environment. Due to this feature, 99.99999% of scientific research and endeavor are fruitless and inefficacious and doesn't truly reveal the actual truth about anything since none of them factor in anthropogenic RF exposure. Only scientific research and endeavor in RF per se is anywhere near fruitful or efficacious for the truth.

Well, that's completely ridiculous. So I can kick the sh!t out of my child for 10 hours straight, it's fine as it's "non deadly force" if I reasonably believe that it is justified? Also breaking someone's arm is presumably non-deadly, is that OK too?
I find it sad that people can't find other methods to discipline children. It's obvious these methods exist as not everyone is resorting to physical violence.
Wow I don't often get annoyed at LR but what is wrong with so many of you acting like PUNCHING someone is just fine and we are all *too soft* these days. Seriously did you all grow up in violent homes where this was normal?
Like it seriously isn't and my opinion of Jakob has skyrocketed if that is why he broke contact with his father. Violent men with an anger problem need to be stopped. You are all enablers here.
The rumors about this situation are not pretty... Gjert belongs in jail.
How old are you? Parents used to belt their kids in the 60s and 70s. Heck, teachers would hit you with sticks. Your generation is soft like Charmin…
I'm 63, and in no universe should it be OK for parents to hit their kids. That's nothing but bullying, pure and simple. Anyone who thinks it's OK for a much bigger parent to hit a much smaller and weaker kid is an absolute fu**ing moron; just because people 'used to' do it, doesn't make it right. F***ing people.
