Allen is a 10,20 guy, in the history of the NFL only Darrell Green 10.08 (but was really a 10,2ish cat) James Trapp 10,14 were faster, Deion at 10,26. Ah....Kansas State/Cowboys Terrence Newman a Big12 100m champ was a 10.20.
All that matters is what defensive players can run with Devon today, there aren't any.

1) Five yard chuck rule. DBs get away with bumping receivers further down field than five yards.
2) Over the top free safety help.
Elite track sprinters are the least productive receivers. As much as Cris Carter and Terrell Owens complained about waiting a few extra years to get into Hall of Fame, both got into H of F with less waiting than Bob Hayes.
4.2 40 yard dash sprinting speed doesn't make a guy a good football player.

Football isn't a track meet.

Tell that to....
Bob Boyd NCAA 100 champ 1000 yard receiver Rams early 50's
Mel Gray Cali State 100 champ a 9.2 a Missouri, great WR for the Cards
Lance Alworth, Paul Warfield, Bobby Mitchell, Cliff Branch all Hall of Famers all tracksters.
Randy Moss a MAC indoor 60/200 champ his game was speed.
Most dangerous WR right now,.....Tyreek Hill 10,1 cat.
Daryl Lamonica was known as The Mad Bomder, the reason was Texas Southern 9,4 sprinter Warren Wells.
Ever heard of NAIA 200 champ Homer Jones, how about double 00 Kenny Burroughs, more Texas Southern sprinters/great WR's.
How about Rocket Ismail, Mark Duper, Olympian Johnny Jones, Wesley Walker, Phil Epps, Willie Gault, Jacoby Ford?
Sure ya need a Fred Biletnikoff, but ya also need Cliff Branch.

I like Allen, I want him to succeed, but he's just not that good of a WR. He's had problems dropping passes in the past. Sure, he can burn the entire secondary, but that doesn't really matter if you can't catch the ball.
He's not even a top 4 receiver on the Eagles. They have other guys that can fly, and catch the ball. You don't need world record speed to stretch the field.

Are you trying to say D Allen is a great receiver?
Allen was an all American high school receiver recruited to Oregon as a football player. He's not a track guy trying football for the first time. He is a very competent receiver, who is barring college injuries could have made the NFL right out of college.
Of course it's newsworthy, as you have a global track star playing in the NFL. Just his being at training camp and on practice squad is newsworthy.
Ended his collegiate football career with 54 receptions for 919 yards and eight touchdowns over 29 games . . . The Ducks complied a record of 23-6 with him and 2-7 without him in the lineup during his three seasons.
Nobody is saying he's another Jerry Rice, ok? The cat can play that is why he is there and his thing is speed

Forgot a few speedy WR's that need mention
Isaac Curtis 9,3 cat out of Cal, a Bengal,
Wilie McGee 9,1 WR a Charger out of Alcorn
J.D.Hill 9.3 ASU/Bills
Elbert "Golden Wheels" Dubenion Bluffton/Bills.....the fastest man in the AFL....was his label
Olympic sprinters Sam Graddy, James Jett, Gerald Tinker, Larry Burton.
Rod Barksdale, Dokie Williams, Vance Johnson, Travis Hannah, Tony Jones, Mike Miller all ran on NCAA 4x1 teams all caught passes in the NFL.

With a 10.36 100m PR, there are many NFL players who can run with Devon. There are a few dozen HS football players that can run with Devon

There were a few SEC cats who ran 10.0x but you haven't heard of them because they were irrelevant players. Not every guy faster than Tyreek can make guys miss like Tyreek.
