Should also mention that was CU's only NCAA football championship, which they split with GA Tech (CU #1 in AP, GT #1 in Coaches).
True. Also a season where CU started off 1-1-1, and the clipping was unfortunate because it was away from the play. ND should’ve won.
However, I think the co-championship was BS, because CO had a much tougher schedule that year. Ga Tech went undefeated in a pansy conference. The only noteworthy opponent they beat was, in fact, Nebraska in a bowl game, but that was after a deflated NU had already lost their “bowl” game to CU, at home I believe, not on a neutral field.
If memory serves.
Wasn't 1990 the year they got the 5th down against Mizzou?
should also mention that CU was lucky to be in that game due to the "fifth down" in Missouri
Also true, but that wasn’t CU’s fault, because if the refs had the down right, CU would’ve run a play on fourth down and probably scored anyway from the one yard line. People tend to forget that.
Either way, it was a remarkable and lucky season.
Here is an account that I found. I had never read this detail before.
A 2010 ESPN article lists the factors that possibly contributed to the confusion among the chain crew, referee J. C. Louderback, and the rest of the officiating crew during the timeout. For one, not every official at the time was required to wear a down indicator or rubber bands on their hands to separately keep track of the current down, by putting the band around their index finger when it is first down, the middle finger when it is second down, and so on. Second, this was the first year that the quarterback spike became legal in college football; since many of the officials had not seen this done before or did not clearly see that this was a spike, they may have thought that the ball was just inadvertently kicked and reset and therefore the down did not change from first to second at that point. In addition, the chain crew member holding the down marker became distracted during the timeout as his attention drifted to what was happening in the stands, as EMTs were desperately performing CPR on a fan who had suffered a fatal heart attack. Furthermore, Louderback himself somehow forgot to signal third down, and immediately went to the sideline to the Colorado bench to alert head coach Bill McCartney that the Buffaloes had no more timeouts left; the brief conversation between Louderback and McCartney during the timeout as they looked at the incorrect down marker further cemented their misconception as to what the down was.[9] On the next play, with the down marker showing second down when it was really third down, the Buffaloes made the same call and Bieniemy was again stopped short of the end zone. Johnson then spiked the ball (thinking it was third down when it was really fourth) to stop the clock with two seconds left. He later claimed that he had no idea the officials had made a mistake, and believed he was spiking the ball on third down.[4] On the following play – fourth down according to the marker, but "fifth down" in reality – Johnson kept the ball himself, and scored a touchdown. By this time, Louderback and his officiating crew had realized their mistake, and conferred for nearly 20 minutes to decide their course of action. During the delay, radio and television announcers also noticed that Colorado had scored with the help of an additional play. Louderback was shown on the phone. After a lengthy consultation, the officials announced their decision: the touchdown counted, giving Colorado a 33–31 lead, and the Buffs would have to attempt the extra point. The rules do not require the extra point try if time has expired and the result will not affect the outcome of the game. However, since Colorado led by only two, Missouri could have potentially blocked the try and returned it for two points to tie the game, thus the try was required. Not wanting to take this chance, Johnson took the snap and went to a knee, allowing the Buffaloes to go home with a controversial win.[10] Another controversy overshadowed by the "5th down" was the fact that replays seemed to show Johnson had actually been stopped short of the goal line on his touchdown run. Narrator: yes, yes it was.
Yeah, we’ve already covered this. Refs screw their heads on & CU has a chance to stuff it in on fourth down from the one. Which they ultimately did. That’s on the refs.
There was a lot of luck that season, including the clipping call against ND in a game ND probably should’ve won. But, find me a quality opponent Ga Tech beat in the ACC that season. NC State? Lol. I think they tied UNC. Their only notable win was Nebraska in the bowl, again after NU’s title hopes went down the drain at home when Bienemy put 4 TDs on them late.
Picking vs the spread you will be lucky to hit 60% nobody can do any better over a season than around 60% it's simply too hard. I am approaching this like we see in your office pick um contest, just SU winners.
21-7 after week one, if anybody can do better let's see it.
If I play 20 games. 10 college and 10 pro if I can't hit 15-5 every week of the reg season I need to shut up about football. The real test is the playoffs both NCAA/NFL.

Deno, I have $1000 on TX at +300 to make the playoffs. Am I an idiot?

Is there some reason you need to make any big$$$$$ play this early in a season? And, have you studied their schedule? Home/road is a big deal.

I’m just going on the record that I have that bet on. I initiated it before the season because I think TX is the real deal this year with depth and experience, and, I figured if they survived Bama (or lost close), it wouldn’t hurt them too badly since it was so early. I can’t see anyone in the Big12 taking them down, though you never know. Okla will probably give them a fight and maybe Tx Tech
Anyway, it’s a small portion of my account, and I will donate some of the proceeds. They could win out and still not leapfrog a FSU, though I don’t think anyone is going undefeated in the Pac12 or SEC this year.
Some good picks by Deno in that last thread. Georgia over Ball State, Ohio State over Youngstown State, Tennessee over Austin Peay, LSU over Grambling, Deno got them all right.

Nobody had ever seen anything like what Deion pulled off. Who replaces his whole team in one season like he did, this was a unique deal nobody had ever seen before. Sorry but unless you can show me that Colorado pick I can't buy it.
TCU played for the championship a season ago when Colorado was winning one game,
And, TCU was at home. So the pick was a one win team on the road vs a national champinship contender, come on guy.
NOBODY had Colorado in that game that is why you can't find one pick for Colorado anywhere here.
