Payout for records in T&F is low, especially for 2k. The prize is either 50k or 100k by the IAAF. The athletes make money through sponsorships and appearance fees.
Jakob´s contract - is as far as I know - to a great extend performance based.
So he probably earns a nice bonus for a WR.
Do you guys understand there is no 2000m "world record?" Not 2 mile either.
Jakob is so pathetic. He knows he can’t touch the GOAT’s 1500 and mile records, so he has to resort to going after an obscure record nobody cares about.
I care about it, so then it’s at least nobody minus one -that makes your statement incorrect…
This is an obscure record to go for, it’s an insanely hard time but it’s more obscure distance than the 2 mile. Why doesn’t he just go for the 3k?
Nah. The 2miles is the more obscure distance of track and road combined.
The world accepts UK/USA fancy for the 1mile distance and give it some credit given its history. But any other non metric distance, no.
The 300/600/1000/2000/1hour and 15km/20km are more common and a more popular event (despite some of those being quite obscure). No one ever race 2miles outside of Commonwealth country. Not sure if anyone race it even in those countries actually, except the USA.
El Guerrouj, Morceli and Aouita didn’t go after the 2000 record until AFTER they had already broken the 1500 and/or mile records. Unlike Jakob, they didn’t use the 2000 as a pathetic coping mechanism for not being able to break the illustrious 1500 and mile records.
Yes I’m sure Jakob never will go after any real records (he must be afraid to offend your opinion)!
Probably only in letsbestupid someone will be criticized for trying to break a WR.
He has lowered his already great 1500m PB and is now the 4th fastest in history and might even improve further this season. Now he makes a shot on the 2000m mark. Based on his fantastic endurance he should be capable to break the record. But, for such a rarely contested distance, the mark is extremely strong, I say he will run 4:44.79.

Jakob is not from a commonwealth country, so your statement is incorrect…. And he raced the two miles in France -neither known as a Commonwealth country….Or a USA state…

Jakob raced the two miles because Komen gave it an existence and Jakob chose to keep it alive. The race was made up fo him so doest matter where it takes place. I can tell you there is no 2miles races in France at any level as I live there. If you want to disagree, you can focus on the exception, yes.

I believe he’s been quoted as saying he wants all outdoor world records from the 1500m up to either the half marathon or marathon by the end of his career. The 2000m is just one on the list. Best to focus on the shorter stuff first while he’s got youth on his side.
The 2k is a world record recognised by the IAAF, the 2 mile isn't though, that's classified as a Worlds best.
The mile is the only imperial distance track event still listed as a "record" for historical reasons. The 2-mile (Komen, now Ingebrigtsen) best is an adjunct to the mile (2 x sub-4) and has a degree of fascination, but isn't even raced in US HS as much anymore (predominantly 3200m now). The normalized distance is now 3000m. I don't see anyone clamoring to bring back the 3 mile or 6 mile (as a reference to 5000 or 10000m).
Events such as 300m, 600m, 1000m and 2000m are either developmental youth distances, or indoors (the 500m is an even rarer distance) at the conference, CIS or other jurisdiction. At the world Senior/Open level none are championship distances.
I would like to see some DL meets utilize these "off-distances" once in while, for the sake of variety. But with the World/OG standards being as difficult as they are that isn't likely as people are still often in search of opportunities to get the standards and the only conversions are for the mile/1500. Perhaps after Worlds/OG events there may be more/better opportunities.

Komen did not invent the 2 mile distance. Check the “World Best Performance Progression” tab here please:
The 2 mile (10,560 feet or 3,218.688 metres) is a historic running distance. Like the mile run, it is still contested at some invitational meets due its historical chronology in the United States and United Kingdom. It has be...
This got a couple downvotes but let’s establish for posterity that it’s true. His mile splits were approximately 4:00.2-4:00.3 and 3:53.8-3:53.9. Still, not bad.

Note that Frenchman Michel Jazy set two World’s Bests in France.
Indoors, Gebrselassie, Bekele and Farah have all made successful 2 mile WBP attempts.
I know. What I meant is that the fact that Komen raced a 2miles prevent it from sinking into oblivion. Jazy era was a long time ago, I guess at that time the mile was a big thing and the 2 miles, something.
The only purpose of this distance nowadays is for the current top level guy to get a first WR (Jakob, Farah) or an extra world record (Komen, Bekele).
