So Jakob gets 14 seconds of theoretical credit in the 5k, but not Bekele? If Jakob can run 12:34, Bekele can run much faster than that in super shoes. Again, Bekele was a much better and more dominant runner than Jakob was. Jakobs not the best 1500m guy ever and doesn’t beat Coe, El G, or Morceli in any type of 1500m race and Bekele beats every 5k/10k guy in history in a type of 5k/10k race.
And why can’t Bekele run 7:54 in super shoes with wave light tech? He was the greatest distance runner ever, he’d surprise you
As I mentioned, as the King of Letsrun. I'll admit that I have a bit of a bias towards Gen Z runners to do away with the old establishment of runners. But, We have yet to see Jakob run an all-out effort in the 5000m. He is a 1500m runner nearing his peak.
As for the horrible 1500 comparisons. I'll play your little game.
against El Guerrouj - the only one I consider he would beat.
against Morceli - debatable as Morceli's stardom in the 1500 was short-lived and widely overshadowed by El Guerrouj.
against Coe- he slaps. Seb Coe at 25 was slower than Jakob is was at 20. The 1500m runners of his two olympic medals were much weaker and slower than what Jakob has to deal with. Katir, Josh '3:27 High Shape' Kerr, Nuguse, Cheriuyot, McSweyn, Girma, Wightman, etc - Were a much stronger powerhouse than Cram, Ovett, Steve Scott.
As for 2023 Jakob v 2008 Bekele. There's no tactic Bekele can pull on Jakob that would make his victory certain. Lagat in 2009 is much weaker than Jakob of today especially since Lagat never got gold in 1500m (certainly not in 2008 either). All-out hypothetical, Jakob dubs in 12:29 and Bekele gets 2nd in 12:30-12:35. It wouldn't even be a struggle.
