I'd say there were quite a few that I never really listened to when I was younger, just content to sing along with the chorus and enjoy the music. For example, "Born in the USA" by Springsteen, and "SledgeHammer" by Peter Gabriel.
There are no shortage of artists who write songs in the abstract, as if the intention is for the listener to mold the songs meanings to whatever the listener wants it to mean to them.
