It’s tough on Kessler from an expectations standpoint that he had such a massive breakout as a high schooler. If that had happened a year later he would be an ncaa stud getting great racing experience and not having such a microscope on him. 6th at us champs would have been a very solid showing, rather than a pretty big bummer. He seems like a guy who naturally excels in time trial type races but is a bit lackluster in championship races (a bit like Alan Webb) and running in the NCAA would help him develop that skill set more. Still plenty of time for him to develop into a world class miler of course, but at age 20 Cole Hocker had accomplished more, and at this point may have more promise as Americas best 1500 runner given his championship racing ability.
