I haven't seen Drew Hunter close that well (sub-41) in a long time. That is good to see. He's still a 5000m guy but doesn't see it himself. Cooper Teare is a 5000m guy and that will really show next year. With his 1500m potential (3:30-31), he should be well under 13 with a couple years of Jerry training. This year is one year too soon for him. At least now he knows he's a 5k guy. Kessler should watch Bernard Lagat videos. Lagat would always get right behind the leader or race favorite so that he would be in perfect position when the kick started. Centro has always done something similar in slow races where he could stick. Lagat could always get to the right position even in DL races. Kessler cannot count on getting out of the box in time to win or make the team. He has all the tools now to get 2nd or 3rd. It's just a question of positioning and confidence.
For Hunter, he’s been pretty open that he does the 1500 because of how loaded the USA is at the 5,000. It’s the right move for now unless he can really get his training to a new level. Injuries have stopped him before. In this race, he fought like hell.
