Also a case to made that Kennedy was doping, since he trained with Komen's group. (Komen was very likely doping.)

wait, are you talking about Bob Kennedy the runner, or Bob Kennedy the candidate for president? The 2nd one is definitely more popular than Pre.
And yes, maybe doping... the guy is 70 and built like the Hulk

Paul MF Chemilo?
Pre is part Nike marketing.

Nope. There was very low expectations for US runners back then. Actually probably the lowest ever. He didn't need to dope to get paid. He was already the top US distance runner before his breakthrough. So anything he did was cheered on.

Bon Kennedy and Todd Williams go 1-2 in the 1995 Prefontaine Classic 2 mile.
When I hear Kennedy's or T-Will's name I think of this race. I was visiting a friend who ran for the Vols in '95 and Kennedy was there training for a bit at that time. Both were some of fav runners of all time. All business. No show.
I have one personal memory about Bob Kennedy. I visited Gothenburg in 1995 during the Athletics World Championships and during the visit, collected some autographs also. One day (before the 5000 metres heats) I recognized Bob Kennedy who walked past me and I decided to ask him an autograph. He kindly wrote it. I wished him also good luck to the final. (Other athletics fans around me wondered who he was...)
Of course, I also watched the 5000 metres final where he was the best non-African runner in 7th place. Maybe a slight disappointment for him.
Was Pre the originator for bringing trash talking to track and field? He was not a fan of the sit and kick strategy and said no one would win a race against him running an easy 2 miles. He was the only person I know in an interview stating he could run the last mile under 4 minutes in his generation. Seems like he was the OG of trash talk for track and field. Gangsta!!!
Why is video from '96 such crap? Not just this but anything from then? I swear it was just a couple of years ago. What a time to be alive.
TV picture technology didn't change much from the 60's until HD came along in the '00's. That is why it looks bad.

Pre was lucky that George Young got injured before the trials. Young was the hardass that Pre thought he was.

Pre was a guy full of a lot of hot air.

Pre wasn’t even the best American distance runner during his prime. Frank Shorter was better and more accomplished.
Pre is a Nike created legend.
Shorter had to go up in distance to escape Pre. The 10k and marathon were Pre's for the taking whenever he wanted to give up on the more esteemed 5k.
