Holt got 4th at USAs. this was a bigger surprise because Holt would have actually made the team if he had either the A standard or a high enough world rank (since some ahead of him didn't have the times or ranking). Elliot was 4th behind guys that had the standard so he had no chance.
Thanks for the correction! I forgot what a crazy race it was last year. It’s not likely Holt will get another opportunity like that but it’s sick he’s working so hard to give himself every chance to make it!
This is an impressive workout. There’s a ton of rest but the important thing I guess is that he is able to recover from each rep and run pretty close to all out for the next big one. He is super-fit but I think he should be very aggressive in the USAs final. If it comes down to a pure kick I’d favor others if he doesn’t have the jump of them. If it’s super-fast he has to make others go around him and not get bogged down in the pack.

That’s not a ton of rest.
He ran 1200m at 3:34 pace — big PR pace.
Took 5 min & then did 3 400s.
He ran 1000m at 1:51 pace and actually did PR.
Took 5 min & then did 3 400s.
He ran 600m at 52 second pace.
…..
5 min and then active rest after what are essentially time trials is peanuts for rest.
Let’s adjust this down to Hobbs - based his current PRs.
Ever think Eric races for place and hasn’t gotten an opportunity in a more time trial esque race? You’re literally doing backflips on Hobb’s meat bro get it out your large intestine- Holt was 4th at USAs last year

I think people are misinterpreting the rest. He did this:
1200, 6’ rest, 3x 400 with 1’ rest, 6’ rest, 1000, 6’ rest, 3x 400 with 1’ rest, 6’ rest, 600, 6’ rest, 3x400 w/ 1’ rest, 6’ rest, 400. So we’re talking about 40’+ rest for 3200 very fast and hard work and 3600 of threshold pace.

Please stop bragging on Holt's 4th at USAs last year. He was 4th against a very weak field. He lost to Jonathan Davis and Josh Thompson. Davis has disappeared this year, and Thompson is Thompson.
No amount of huffing and puffing about his 4th place finish will change the fact that Holt is a B-Teamer.
Just look at his record this year. He beat a weak field at the NY Grand Prix, and was second in the B Heat at the LA GP.
In LA, his time would have gotten him 10th against the Big Boys. He lost to Keiran Lumb, by a second and a half. Was he "running for second"?
Holt is 7th on the world qualifying list for Americans. To make the team, he has to finish ahead of at least 3 of those guys at Trials.
Considering that slowest of the Big Four (Hocker) just ran 3 seconds faster than Holt's SB, and seems to be rounding into form, that's a big ask.

He’s certainly going in as an underdog, but I’d look at more the fact that Holt was 1st at 1200 last year and was just narrowly outkicked. It’s a slim margin but he is physical and can outmuscle guys to the spot. His last 100 in NY was impressive (12.85). Put it all together and you have Kessler’s inexperience (and tendency to get shuffled back), Hockers potential rust, Teare’s limited top speed…One thing we don’t have to worry about likely is Holt putting himself in the spot to make it.
Killing time on Instagram and it served up this video:https://www.instagram.com/reel/CpnW0G-IjEH/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Wilson Kipketer saying that he used to do 5*1k with 5min recovery in 2:18.I'm seriously taken aback. Am...
I was present at this workout covering Eric Holt and Empire Elite. Very impressive stuff from Holt and he looked amazing in every rep. Look out for an article out soon on Eric and EE. As New Yorker myself, I hope Eric makes it to Budapest. He has the World Ranking and it would be an amazing story.

It's as if they're trying to trick themselves into believing they're in better shape than they are.
If you've heard Holt talk, you know he isn't trying to trick himself -- he's succeeded! After the NY GP, he said he knew from his workouts that he was in 3:33 shape. He would have run that, but his coach told him to run for place, not time.
I hope I'm wrong about him. I hope it turns out he's ready to run with the big boys, but when I look at his racing record this spring, I just don't see it.
Crazy ass workout which looks cool but idk about how that 15 at usas will go… dude has a high work capacity. I hope he pops a good one but this workout might have been the good one… who knows. Wishing the best!
