...so pissed and frustrated every time she is interviewed?
This is a small thing, but it is a another example of why track and field isn't a real sport.
Every other professional sport has mandatory media appearances where athletes are fined heavily if they don't show up or act reasonably. They are provided with PR and media training. They realize they are entertainers as much as they are professional athletes.
Even after Lebron loses the NBA finals he has to sit down and give a press conference. He is reasonable and well put together.
Nothing really to do with Sydney in particular, this is pervasive throughout the entire sport. Sorry if you want to be a professional and get a paycheck to run, you need to do the media too, that is part of professionalism
This is just dumb. Every athlete has their own personality. Some are more serious others appear to be happier.
Someone gave the example of Abbie- always smiling ready to talk. Athing is very well spoken (and is still very young).
Eric Holt's interview was so genuine you had to come out of there being a fan if you already weren't.

She clearly hates being interviewed and has to do it anyways. I’m not sure she even likes the sport she is in.
Sydney certainly likes the money she makes.
I recently talked to another women 400h hurdler who went pro this year. She only runs around 56. She is so happy and excited to run and to race, even though she makes very little money.
No way Sydney would be a pro runner if she was barely making ends meet like a lot of other pro runners are.
To be fair to Sydney, would I be in a career that I didn't really like if I was getting paid a million dollars per year. Yes I would!
She comes off as extremely insecure to me in interviews and like she's not comfortable in her own skin.
You are kind of correct. She is insecure. And she's not comfortable in the spotlight. But she's fine away from the spotlight.
She has said that after she quits running she wants to work in a church. She will be much happier in that environment, once she is away from the spotlight.

I just don’t think she’s very vivacious. One thing that did bother me was that 13 minute documentary when she asked her husband “are you proud of me” after finishing second in Paris. A bit cringeworthy.
she seems pretty insecure for someone with otherworldly talent

Lol, of course the god nut has emotional/mental issues. A life of indoctrination has told her to delegate everything to an imaginary higher power instead of working on herself.

What’s keeping you from working on yourself?
Nothing, which is the point. I have acknowledged that there isn't some invisible deity scrutinizing my behavior 24/7 or some grand theological purpose to strive toward—it's just me. It's no surprise that someone who believes she will 'burn in hell' for eternity for not behaving a certain way or doing certain things has mental issues.

She is intense. I wished she would have stayed in Kentucky 1-2 more years. Granted this was pre-NIL, but it would have benefited her to have teammates for a longer period of time. She let her goofy side come through with her teammates while in school. She transitioned to pro rather quickly and those teams are super small and you’re isolated. She does have the clout to perhaps change that post race, interview me as I’m winded and just finished racing a minute prior obligation. Have the athletes give a presser before the meet and available for the media scrum when they make it to the chute. Have Lewis Johnson have to go elbow to elbow with all J Gault and the millennials and gen z-ers pointing cell phones at athletes.
She always looks pensive and serious tbh. Doesn't looks like the most approachable person. 🤷🏻♀️
She is only non friendly on race days. Sydney was at Mt SAC Relays this year just hanging out near where I was and a lot of people talked to her and she was very friendly. She didn't even need to be there but she drove an hour from her house just to say hi to her fans.
She just has massive race anxiety on race days, that's all. Outside of race days she's actually very nice.
