Actually I now remembered it was Wale in the 3000SC when he had only run the 5000 at the trials. Then he blew up because he isn't a steepler.
“Not a steepler” who’s been 4th in 3 global championships and won 3 DL steeples. Not easy to do as an Ethiopian 5k runner, and more than anything he just has 2-3 outlier performances he can’t replicate.
Yeah, he has great times, I understand why they threw him in there. But his form is terrible. He just gets by at steeple because he's a great flat 3000-5000 runner and the steeple is comparatively a bit weaker.
Not to take anything away from her, but it actually seems like it’s proving the norm for female 1500 runners as crazy-fast as she is. Dibaba, Hassan, Tsegay, and likely Kipyegon all have range from 800 to marathon that’s unparalleled for men.
What will she running in Budapest? 1500/10000?? Maybe nobody wants to run for 2nd in the 1500….
My guess is she prefers her chances of snagging a gold in a 10k/5k double versus the 1500/5k she ran last year, since she knows she can’t beat Kipyegon at 1500. Although Gidey and Hassan are bound to make the 10k very challenging…
I was just wondering are women just better range-wise than men? How many sub-3:30 guys have also run 12:45/26:30/2:04? Or maybe it's something to do with shoes or training? Jakob is probably gonna end up with top 5 times in every event at least through the half marathon, and Kiplimo's at 7:26/12:41/57:31.

Women are NOT better range wise than men. This subject is somewhat complicated. The depth of women is still not anywhere near the men. Remember range is a relative concept. So depth is the primary reason for the appearance of better range among the women.

Don’t forget Chebet in the 10 too….
Hassan 5/10 also? Looks like they are going to leave Faith to beat up on the youngsters and Muir in the 1500. She may well stomp them all in the 5000 too if she decides to try.
