I respect her privacy. I also feel like too many old dudes are way too obsessed with getting every little detail about teenage girls. almost disgusting
Ellie Shea is secretive. She doesn't talk much to other people and she has a very small inner circle. She probably has decided where she wants to go but she doesn't want to announce it yet.

The college where someone decides to spend 4 years of their life at is not a "little detail."
She is on a club team but hasn't run this season. She usually runs the Boston Mayor's Cup but did not this year even though her team did. She could be injured.

Last year she actually didn't run the Mayor's Cup either, but she did run the USATF-NE Championships, which is next weekend. If she doesn't run that there might be reason to think she's injured. But she had a very full summer of running, so that might also be why she's taken a longer break.
It's true that Ellie Shea isn't much of a team player. But on the other hand, I don't think that she is good enough to go pro.
I think that she will end up running in college, even though she doesn't seem to like being on a team, because I think that will be her only option.
I wouldn't assume she's not a team player just because she doesn't run for her high school team. It would make no sense for her to do that, she'd spend the whole season blowing away the competition and then maybe race one national meet.
She led the US U20 team to their first ever medal in world cross. Got to give her credit for that, seems like few top American runners can be bothered with that meet.

It has nothing to do with Ellie Shea not running for her high school. She just doesn't like being around other people and she keeps to herself a lot, that's all. She doesn't have a desire to hang out with a big group of girls on a cross country team like many other girls do.
But since she isn't going to get signed to a pro contract right out of high school, she will have to join a college team. Maybe as she gets older she will start coming out of her shell.
Shea didn't run in the USATF-NE Championships today either, so she may actually have some injury or health issue. On the other hand, I still think there's a chance she's intentionally choosing to open up her season at Footlocker regionals. Both because she might've wanted a longer break after all her summer racing and traveling, and because with XC Worlds moved to March 30th, if she qualifies for them again she'll have to extend her winter circuit a few weeks, so it'd make sense to start a few weeks later.
I've heard rumors that her private coaches are trying to make her stay local so they can keep coaching her.
Signing a Pro contract
Good grief, I hope not. As other people on here have said, she needs to come out of her shell, and being part of a good college team would be the #1 thing for that.
On this week's Milesplit podcast, Olivia Ekpone said she'd talked to Shea's group, and apparently Shea likely won't decide till later in the school year, but she DOES think Shea is leaning toward college over going pro now.

Did Olivia Ekpone say anything about why Ellie Shea hasn't raced at all this cross country season?

No. But it was a special "National Signing Day Show," so college signings are all they discussed.
I dont get these clubs - paying $2k for three months of training (twice a week in person). $6k for a year?? I imagine it could be helpful in the winter, just for access to indoor tracks, but otherwise seems crazy. outside of Shea, nothing seems out of the ordinary special about this particular team in terms of improvement etc. Kids improve juat as well under cheaper conditions. Some of these athletes don't seem to be improving at all. they boys roster of this club would be smashed by a lot of the local high schools. Why would these kids go the club route?? I get it in other sports that require a lot more technical expertise, access to competition etc, but none of that matters in running. I could enter myself in all the same meets just unattached. and what if they don't improve a lot??? Missing out on a part of high school experience, the money, inconvenience - none of it would seem worth it. is there something I'm missing? Maybe kids just like to feel special being on a "club team" because that signifies being elite in other sports??
She is obviously coming back from an injury. She did not run this season until NXR. She then ran a track 3000 last week and was about 25 seconds off her PR from last December.
