You think Jakob lacks world class speed? That's an insane statement.
It’s the truth. His 800 PB is 1:46. MAYBE he could run 1:44 now. He needs to run 1:49 pace to break the 1500 record. Not to mention his 400 speed is not particularly impressive, maybe 49 at best, compared to the 47-48 most other top 1500 runners could throw down. He’s a strength runner through and through.
The dude is way faster than I was and my top end 400m Speed was 48.20 with a 3:45.09 1,500m best and a 1:52.05 open 800m. I would estimate all out Jakob is hitting a 400m in 46.7 to 47.5 minimal.
The time trial race was run back when he was 19. 1:46 for a non 800m specialist at that age is extraordinary. The other 800m races he has run have all typically been at the very start of the season and not throughout the season which is a poor indicator of what he could really run if he put more emphasis on it.
He was a 3:28 guy at that time but only a 1:46:44. Last year 800 was beginning of June, just like his 2miles WR, beaten by mid 1:44 and low 1:45 guys.
I still agree that he can run faster in the 800 but not as fast as many think here. I would say 1:45 low.
I agree with you on the low 1:45 for him. I guess the question is will that be enough for him to break 3:26. My feeling is he will achieve it as his speed endurance is so good. Also if you look at Bernard Lagat who ran 3:26.34 he ran the 800m multiple times and only had a lifetime best of 1:46.00 so I think if Jakob can run a low 1:45 he can get the 1500 WR.

You can’t use your times (which include an exceptionally fast 400 that suggests you underperformed at 800) and extrapolate to deduce Ingebrigtsen’s. He is a 7:54 2-miler, a complete aerobic freak. I’d be very surprised if he could break 48 for 400.
1500, mile, 2000, 3000, 5000, 10000. I would say they are roughly all equally insanely strong.
Jakob best distance now is probably the 3k. The shorter the event, the tougher it will be for him to break the WR because of his lack of world class speed. He has a shot this year at the 3k. 2k/5k should be close, doable but very thin margin. For the,1500/mile, 0,5-1 sec short I would say. 10k, maybe not yet.

What I think he's trying to say is he doesn't have 1:42/1:43 speed.
His speed endurance could be the greatest ever.
He doesn't have that bounce in his stride El G had. However, he is stronger in his core than any distance runner I've seen to date (Rudisha comes to mind also).
Before I thought he wasn't capable of 3:26. While El G got there on basic ability I think Jakob may get there with his brain. He is intelligent and self-aware.
He said that in an interview after Paris, I think it was CitiusMag. It's on Youtube.
Please give me the exact qoutation!

It doesn't work like that. Mo Farah could run 3.28 but hardly broke 13 in the 100m.
You can't be a endurance and a speed monster at the same time.
Jakob's "modest" 800 PB combine with exceptionnal 1500+ does not indicate sub 48 400 at all.
Mo Farah competed in a sports celebrity 100m race in 2012 (BBC Superstars) against other non-sprinter UK Olympians. The results were as follows...….1. Anthon...

Congrats on your very good personal bests. That said, your personal bests have not enhanced your analytical skills. J Ingebrigtsen cannot, has not and will not sprint 400m f.a.t. sub-48.

Mo ran a pb of 12:53 and it's not unreasonable to speculate that he could have gone faster had that been his focus. I personally would not draw heavy conclusions from Mo's posted 5000m best.
Not sure why you refer to Aouita's lack of speed. He ran 1:43 which is fast for miler/5000 m runner and even beat out Joaquim Cruz--a 1:41.77 runner/olympic gold medalist once I believe.
Doing 6x800 closing with 2 in 1:49 is serious business. He should give the 800 a go and might be able to hold his top gear 2 laps... 1:40.
He's in peak form. Don't delay. They need to set up some time trials for him like Webb's mile.
Did you just say that Jakob might be able to run 1:40? Wow.
I agree that 3:26.00 might be out of reach because of limits on his speed, not his endurance. I believe he can run the 3k WR after Friday. The 2k seems very possible: it’s 3:33.59 1500 pace which Jakob makes look very comfortable, and he split 4:51.6 for the last 2k of his 2 mile. The mile is a little less likely, but still conceivable. I’m now sure he can run under 12:40 for 5k, it’s just a question of by how much. Longer WRs than that will never happen.
Why do you think longer WRs will never happen? He’s clearly better at the 5k than 1500, which is saying something about the Olympic champion and best miler on the planet. We don’t have any evidence he wouldn’t be just as good if not better at the 10k, he’s stated a personal preference for 1500 but that’s likely the very shortest end of what could be unprecedented range. He’s the first male athlete in many decades who has a legitimate shot at all the WRs from 1500-5k, but he’s doing so with lack of leg speed and incredible endurance that would translate well to 10k.

I was surprised by his slow time. Although conditions werent great with the wind and rain, but Heavyweight Boxing gold medalist Anthony Joshua (6'4" 17st/238lbs) won the race in 11.5. Seeing that Mo can run a 52/53 sec on a l...
