She runs sub 50 in the 400, takes second, and her idiot coach sends her out to run the 400 hurdles about a half hour later. Arguably the two toughest races. Total idiot.
She wasn't "sent out". Britton Wilson has been planning this double herself for a long time. Get your facts straight before you start accusing the coach.
She showed that she is a class act. She committed to do something that was so difficult that it is thought to be impossible. What I got from this is that if she can't do it, then it most likely can't be done. She put it out there, and she saw it through. I have nothing but total respect for that. Also, as soon as the 400 was over, she went straight to the winner and gave her a sincere congratulations. She had to be disappointed, but she did not let that keep her from showing excellent sportsmanship. Britton Wilson is the real deal.
Least she didn't drop out of her 2nd event - even though her double was much harder. Noy a mental midget.

Rhasidat Adeleke, Britton Wilson and Savannah Sutherland are ALL spectacular athletes. But it wasn't Wilson's day and the double proved too ambitious, especially given the conditions, short time and her nagging injuries. It was a perfect storm against her pulling something like that off.
It would have been nice when she arrived in Austin if, given her injuries and the weather, if she told her coach, "I know I wanted to do this, but it doesn't seem like a good idea any more." But she decided to go for it and it backfired. Lesson learned and I'm sure great days are still ahead for her; maybe this year, surely the next.
Felt bad for Wilson when you see the pain and disappointment crossing the finish line after losing the 400.
She had no chance in the 400 hurdles with just 22 minutes in between races.
She still went and congratulated the winner to show her great sportsmanship. Yes, I know thats what you should do, but not everyone does it, especially when theres so much disappointment.
Hope she bounces back next time. She is a great runner and a seems like a great person.

explain to me again how doubling makes you run poorly...in the first race?

It doesn't.
Just too many stupid people here making stupid comments about something they think they understand but don't.
The coaches to Tuohy and Wilson let down their charges by allowing them to go for such stupid doubles in those conditions. Set them up for failure. Try it at your conference meet but not at nationals. Stupid. And Whitaker at Stanford needs to hit the portal. How does she not run the 800 at regionals?!
There wasn't enough time between the 400m open and the 400mH. She's a great runner. Nobody is an idiot. Very good coach. A little optimistic to try this double given the level of competition. There was less than a half hour on the meet schedule between the two events.
A loss to Adeleke and still running sub 50 isn't a bad result. She lost to a great athlete. Britton is one of our top young runners. She took on too much with this double. It's not failure.

Agreed. Spectacular 400 m run, just had someone faster that day, no shame. Her sportsmanship was spectacular as well. Some other athletes should take note.
