I’m surprised people aren’t talking about 18 year old Niels Laros running 3:38.34 off a 2:01 800 split. He went from 14th at 1,000m (2:29.6) to 4th, last 500 ~68.7, last 200 ~26.7, the fastest close in a field full of 3:31-3:34 types. Don’t be surprised when he runs 3:32 this summer.
Laros ran like an American and was clearly disappointed in the race. He posted on Instagram that he learned a lot from the race. That means getting rid of the stupid tactics like hanging well back in the pack. He said during the post race interview on the FBK YouTube channel that he took lots of elbows.
More significantly. Laros has proper perspective and short term goals. He said during that interview that his 2023 target is the European U20 Championships.
She has a good chance to double medal in the the 5000/10000 with 3:58 and 29:37. I think she drops the 1500 this year
Why would she drop anything? Does Sifan Hassan strike you as someone who beholds to fear and conventional wisdom? She's not embarrassed by bronze in Tokyo. When she races Kipyegon again sure she's a big underdog but now the dynamic has changed because Tsegay will push the pace instead of Hassan trying to decide whether to lead or play cat and mouse with Kipyegon.
If anything, the schedule is easier for her. Hassan would have to deal with a day one 1500 heat, followed by the 10,000 final at night, then the 1500 semifinal the next morning. That's difficult but it's followed by a day off. Then the second half of the meet wouldn't be bad at all, by her standards.
Hassan has regained confidence in her kick. That's the contrast to 2022 and the reason she won't drop anything. She said in the post race FBK interview that she was very happy with her final 300.
Gidey has no chance if Hassan has restored her kick. The interesting battle would be against Kipyegon at 5000, if she chooses to attempt it.
Maybe she is a generational talent with amazing range... 1500 to marathon concurrently that has no precedent by a male or female athlete ever before.
Mo Farah comes to mind but doesn't quite come close to Hassan's achievements (not sure if he could have improved on either the 1500 or the marathon with more tries). I thought about Jakob possibly but even for him I think the half marathon would be the upper limit to his range currently, we'll see over this following decade..
There’s magnitudes less competition on the female side so it’s “easier” for a female to exhibit such range than for a male, much easier.
Nearly every boy in the world is testing his speed and endurance against his peers from a very young age and knows what his capacity is as a runner. Most girls in the world go nowhere near a friendly foot race, let alone T&F.

I agree with this 100%. Hassan is certainly not doing anything that Bekele hasn’t done, the difference is that KB’s 3:32-3:33 1500 was not a medal threat at a global championship, but Hassan is at 3:52-3:55. Now at least Hassan has to deal with her El G in Kipyegon, and she’s outclassed in that event, but there is only one Faith, and not El G and Lagat and the others. Anyway, nothing that Hassan is doing is more remarkable than Kenny, especially after factoring in super shoes…..so I guess you all think KB is a doper too?
Sifan is making me think about those Kenyans' running 2 hour marathons. Just difficult to believe it's all natural ability and training! But I hope so!

Sifan Hassan could barely beat Hellen Obiri at the 5k and struggled against Gudaf in a 59, 14.46 race last year. It won't be that interesting against Kipyegon
Oddly i think Siffan's best bet will be the 10k in Paris, the rest of the distances will be a reach
How many back to back Olympic 5k champions do you know?
Yeah she's definitely the GOAT female long distance runner. Insane range from 1500-marathon. How many female runners could run 3:51 for 1500 and 2:18 in their first marathon (and beating a stacked field in London)?

Toxicity? Please.
First of all, letsrun message boards are nothing if not toxic. Where have you been?
Some of you need to look up some Lance Armstrong press conferences and watch all the journalists and fans who fawned over him, and treated anyone who asked reasonable questions like public enemy number one, only to play victim once he was caught.
Why does this entire board believe her completely unnatural recovery tendencies that defy all standard norms of physiology are not a clear indicator that she is blatantly doping?
The biggest benefit to doping is the unnatural ability to recover and respond in ways that "non aided" athletes are unable to. You effectively bypass the recovery period, and enable your body to keep coming back for more hard sessions or races.
How was her Olympic Games heroics not a complete mockery of clean sports?
What about her time with Salazar? Never done anything to violate the rules of doping..? Ever in her career?

Well; maybe most track runners are simply too timid in this respect. I don't of course know whether Sifan Hassan is clean or not, but things like that are routine in cross country skiing (I admit that in cross country skiing you have only few of these little bumps that you have with every step in running).
And as far as Salazar is concerned: USADA explicitly accused only the officials and not the runners. That does of course not prove that the latter ones didn't dope, just that the Salazar case is not suitable as an evidence for that.
There's zero chance she's clean. What she's done is not possible for a clean athlete, and not a single person can make a case otherwise because there is no precedent for this in the history of the sport. When she was young she was a great athlete but no one could have predicted this. Come on people.

Hussein Abdi Kahin the most successful male track distance runner ever, and he is the most successful British track athlete in modern Olympic Games history.
Sir Mo Farah was brought to the UK illegally as a child and forced to work as a domestic servant, he has revealed.
the dirtiness from Africa you live it and taste it every day in your corrupt and consuming vowed society.
